Hi, Was wondering if you could help me with a little "problem". I was contacted by IGN.com where they wanted to advertise on our site. The site has about 3000 unique visitors a day and about 35 000 pageviews. They wanted the banners on our main pages and on the footer on our forums. Is there a standard way to calculate how much they should pay? They wanted a fixed price for a full year of ads. Hope you can give me some guidelines. Thanks!
It depends on your website. Its about who you are targeting and also about the effective location of your site. Please post or pm your site, so we can help you. For example. I know a weblog about insurance who charges 16 cpm and has around 500 uniqe visitors a day and 4000 hits a day. While another weblog with general news only charges 6 cpm, while it has 900 uniqe visitors a day and 12000 hits a day.
One thing for sure, IGN is a cash powerhouse. They want you for a reason (Targeted visitors that will conver to sales), so that being said, aim high! You can always negotiate down, but never UP! My 2 cents....
Make them give you an offer first. Don't give them a price. The price they give you will be low. Tell them it's impossible to give them that price, that you need at least twice that.
Yeah, thats what I did since I've never had any advertisements on any of my sites, just some affilliate programs and such. The replied and said about $1000 for some text ads, for a full year.
That's not much... you could probably earn that much per month by just slaping up an extra adsense block instead of their ads, or better yet a targeted aff program. if you have targeted traffic, and you know it's quality then you know it's worth at LEAST $10 cpm for any banner ads (for sure) since any ad network is going to pay you at least $3-5 without a contract or obligation. even at $1 look at your earnings: $1 cpm x 35 000 page views = $35/day $35/day x 30 days = $1050 /month That's over $1k monthly from a $1 cpm which is SUPER LOW. Hit them up for lots more money.
I agree with itsme targetted traffic is worth at least $10CPM. Your best is to let them give you an offer calculate the CPM and then add 25% of that, send them the offer back. If you're lucky they'll take your offer at a 25% pro rate if not then you can always settle with a 10% bonus. Congrats by the way.
1000 USD is really way too cheap!! Aim for 15 CPM and talk to them as if their competition is also intressted. Be calm and not sound like you need them. Play the game like they need you.
