How much should I pay for a typoed version of mine

I've maintained a website for 3 plus years. Thsi year, someone took a domain which is essentially a typo of mine.

I contacted him and offered him $75 for it.

He has come back asking for $275. I think that is a lot.

Aren't there some rules that restrict people from hoarding domain names that are typoes of others? Does $275 sound like hoarding? What's my recourse?

Do you have a trademark or legal rights to the name? Did you have them before the domain was registered?

If so, you can pursue the domain through UDRP and it costs at least $1500 to file (probably want a lawyer - http://www.dnlist.com/Domain_Names/Legal_Resources/Lawyers/ )

at that price its cheaper to just pay even if you do have legal rights. and buy all your typos if that is really a big concern and youre losing traffic.
