I'm starting a social networking site too. I'm looking for a liftcast web cam and chat script just like an adult dating site. Can anyone suggest about this. Thanks

Typically, if done right from scratch those type of sites and developments can be quite expensive. On norm, in the thousand to thousands range.

Well, andrewonline, I think the OP was hoping more for a discussion on the subject and some support from the members on estimated appropriate costs.
From what I've seen, for custom coding a site like this, the costs go in around the thousands to tens of thousands.
There's no need to start from the ground up through, there are many different software solutions out there available now. If you're on a tight budget, I wouldn't recommend anything hosted because you will have a monthly bill to pay. Best to find somebody to help you develop an opensource solution.

You can see my community getting going at www.xind.ca. There's still a lot of work to be done, and we spend most of our time working on clients' sites so it's been slow going, but we've sure learned a lot and have a lot more on the go, we can do just about anything with community sites now using buddypress.
