How much should I charge to build this site?

I'm re-vamping a business website. I plan on migrating it over to wordpress. I am not a professional web designer, but know I have the WP skills to do everything I need for them and add a lot of value to the site. I know they'll be happy with it - even though I imagine wordpress isn't what most "high quality" sites are made on.

I need to know how much to charge for this. Also, they are a family friend, so I don't want to offend them by over-charging. But I also don't want to shoot myself in the foot by charging too little. I want to give them an hourly rate and project price. What ranges would you charge for something like this?

    Thanks for your opinions!

$10 an hour, and no longer then 24 hours. So not over $200.

10 an hour, :) gee that seems low, but I guess it depends what you need to live,

the great debate, charge what you think is reasonable, remember when you get a client there are always little things that you do as "pr" and you cannot charge for everything, so make it worth you while,

Really, $10 an hour? That seems really low to me. I know WP isn't exactly the most professional thing in the world, but I've seen some pretty good things being done with it - and I've always been able to do what I've wanted with it. I imagine the site will take me about 15-18 hours from start to finish. But even $180 bucks..I mean thats pretty cheap. I was thinking $400 MINIMUM. I would say anything less than that isn't really "worth my time."

I know this is ultimately up to me, but can anyone else shed some light here?

$10 per hour seems very poor to me. Maybe if you were doing a personal site for a friend, but for a business website I would be thinking around $25 to $35. Give yourself some headroom. Remember, you can always drop your price or give a discount.

I have researched this for one of my websites. The average price I found was $800 to revise and transfer to wordpress etc. These are professional services so use this as a starting point. My guess $400-600 depending how much work is involved.

Thanks for the tips guys. Last thing on this - I figure its better to charge a project price, rather than an hourly rate. Is that correct thinking, even if the client (my family friend in this case) wants an hourly rate as well?

    Hello,

This could be an easy standard for you to use:

    (HTML Only)
$150 for the first initial page
$25 for each additional page (links)
    $5 per image

    (HTML & Flash)
$200 for the first initial page
$30 for each additional page (links)
    $5 per image

    (Flash Only)
$250 for the first initial page
$50 for each additional page (links)
    $5 per image

    Best regards,

If there is a chance that they can be a steady client for future work you should consider that. I would make sure you provide great service at an affordable price.

Typically wordpress sites should be under 400 IMO

i believe you need to let them know real market price & then same time you need to let them know what you are charging them. Then and only they will think you charge them right. Also for this kind of work if i am u i will charge around $300 after discount. That's my view!
