Hello, I put a 125x125 banner on my site for someone to test for 2 days the banner is the animated one that stands out the most http://www.heron-productions.com my site is PR4 and has 1000+uniques a day How much do you think I should charge for this banner to be on my site for a month? I am kind of new at this so please help me out
1000+ uniques/day? How could your alexa rank be ~400K with 1000/day? My site gets like 30 uniques per day and the alexa rank is under 200K. I know alexa isn't entirely accurate because it only counts people with the alexa bar installed but still that seems like a huge discrepancy. I use Google analytics to count the uniques. I'm not disputing what you say but I'm a little confused about my alexa rank vs the number of uniques reported in Google Analytics.
I have about 30 or more pages that together get 1000+ uniques a day. I do not know how alexa calculates rankings but if you look at the traffic details at alexa you can see my traffic.
Alexa really is bullshit though. I've used it to get under 100K, when one of my sites only was getting 50 uniques a days. I'd say $25-$30 for that spot. Track conversions and see how profitable is for the first couple of users. If click-thru's are high (which they usually aren't too high anyway for banners), then you can up the prices.
Yeah, the page views tool is odd if that's what you are using. It looks like I get around 1 million page views per day.
No I certanly do not use alexa for my traffic details, I am just saying you can check my traffic there and perhaps compare it to your or any other site. From my understanding alexa traffic shows how many users per 1 million that have alexa toolbar visits your site. Thanks for the pricing advice!
You can't trust Alexa at all! When my site was getting a thousand uniques a day - it was around 800,000 to 1,000,000+ in Alexa. Then, I started posting here (and adding a link in my signature), and my Alexa rank doubled (with no difference in traffic). You gotta remember - virtually no one uses the Alexa toolbar (so they're extrapolating overall market conditions from a very small sample size - which is tenuous at best). And, the only ones who do use Alexa are webmasters who are interested in how their sites rank in everything... So, Alexa is very inaccurate to begin with - and it has a massive bias towards webmaster topics... Take your ranking with a grain of salt...
Alright, the best way to find out how much to charge is to join AdBrite. My professional opinion would be this..... AdBrite.com will actually keep track of your visitors, click through rates for their ads, and allow advertisers to put ads on your site in a 1 week, 1 month, 1 year type promotional contract. The benefit I noticed, which you might use, is the ability to establish your site's value per week, per click, etc. for potential advertisers in an industry you choose in accordance with your AdBrite registration. Check them out and get started. My personal opinion would be this..... When I went to heron-productions.com it didnt show up. Charge $0
