Hi there, i own an gaming news website that get's just over 3k visits per day, over 90 percent of the traffic is organic and most hits are to the / = homepage. I was wondering with a gaming news site where over 90 percent of it's traffic is organic, and receives over 3k visits per day/5 - 6k impressions per day how much do you realastically think it should be making per day/per month I own a site in this situation, though i make 1 £2 - £4 per day which is horrendous. Also best ad layout? = Header text&image ad next to logo? Sidebar 300x250 image ad? and inside a post, end of post image ad, 300x250 is this a good adsense setup to achieve best ctr/ best revenue? thanks
Difficult to say about layout without seeing the site. There is a possibility that you're (unintentionally) targeting the wrong keywords. If you mainly receive browsing traffic, the people will be rather uninterested and won't click. It may be also that the ads don't appeal to them. Do you know your visitor base? What are they interested in? Maybe it's worth putting affiliate ads on instead of adsense... try Amazon games ads?
The site is www.fifa13.com, however a new theme will be implemented = www.fifa13.com/demo = this is the theme were are switching over to. Currently, i don't have an ad in the header of the site (don't know where to place the code) just got the in sidebar and in a post. The current theme also, isn't great, looks quite messy the new theme is better. Also we've made the descion, to make the other categories other gaming news/reviews as private so no one else can see them, after getting advice from people, we found that the site should merly be focused on Fifa 13 news ONLY. I think i am targeting the correct keywords, the keyword Fifa 13 brings in over 2.5k visits PER DAY ALONE, other traffic comes from other keywords also.
Yep, i've just applied for infolinks and adsense so fingers cross, i'll be accepted for both and i should make $20 plus per day.
This code will increase your CTR <table border="0" width="100%"> <tr> <td bgcolor="#669922" height="18" align="center"><script type="text/javascript"><!-- google_ad_client = "pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 15; google_ad_format = "468x15_0ads_al_s"; google_ad_channel =""; google_color_border = "#669922"; google_color_link = "#669922"; google_color_bg = "#669922"; google_color_text = "003366"; google_color_url = "000000"; //--></script> <script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"> </script><font face="Arial" color="#527F76" size="1"> </font> </td></tr></table> <br/> <table border="0"> <tr> <td width="320"><script type="text/javascript"><!-- google_ad_client = "pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"; google_ad_width = 250; google_ad_height = 250; google_ad_format = "250x250_as"; google_ad_type = "text"; google_ad_channel =""; google_color_border = "FFFFFF"; google_color_link = "#669922"; google_color_bg = "FFFFFF"; google_color_text = "666666"; google_color_url = "#cccccc"; //--></script> <script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"> </script> </td> <td valign="top" align="left"> <script type="text/javascript"><!-- google_ad_client = "pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"; google_ad_width = 250; google_ad_height = 250; google_ad_format = "250x250_as"; google_ad_type = "text"; google_ad_channel =""; google_color_border = "FFFFFF"; google_color_link = "#669922"; google_color_bg = "FFFFFF"; google_color_text = "666666"; google_color_url = "#cccccc"; //--></script> <script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"> </script></td> </tr> </table> Code (markup): Just replace pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX with your id and your appropriate color settings And it simply have a view like this:
most keywords for gaming are low CPC anyway. If you want to make something out of gaming blogging then you could try something related to world of warcraft gold since it has some CPC (to bad the competition is high).
I like the layout. It's clean and crisp. The banner between the content and navigation won't have a high CTR. I'd suggest you remove it to avoid diluting your CTR and to avoid annoying the visitors. You could substitute it with a link module that matches the top navigation in colour and style. Because many of your posts are good length, you could benefit from a single medium ad box floated to the left within the body of your articles (so that text flows around it) Use a colour scheme that blends in with your theme. not from the top of my head. It would take a lot of research. Try SemRush keyword tool (it's not that expensive) and look at a selection of competitors. I bet you will come up with some brilliant high-paying keywords to target. Yeah, and get yor site the "above the fold" penalty. If most of your above the fold content is ads, Google will penalise you. You'll see a drop in rankings, so in fact the CTR increase you'd get from this will actually make you less money. No they're not. Some of them are low-paying, some are a gold mine.
Im my opinion you should get about $10 but it really depends on many factors. If your CPR is low then the earnings also will be low.
I've over 30+ sites at multiple niches have been use that ads layout for about 3 years. Not ever penalize by google even drop in rankings. Most of my sites stick on top 3 google page. CTR over 60% and typically earn over $0.70 per click.
@tankard are you sure about the zaharay ads layout will actually give you penality? cause i have seen many people using it and never got penalized,or are you just wanna be seo specialist?
It's a new penalty and it will take some time to propagate to the whole Google index. Read this. It is official: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/page-layout-algorithm-improvement.html Many sites are already dropping because of this. The golden rule is - if the majority of your site's layout above fold is ads (just like your example), you may be hit by this update. Sorry, mate, no offence but I think you're lying. You cannot have a 60%. It's 2012 and with so many visitors gone "ad-blind" it's just not possible. If it were (I'm not saying it is) you'd be officially the biggest guru of the WWW. Oh, yeah! I simply want to come across as an expert because then I will be able to go to the digitalpoint marketplace and maybe earn $5 by selling one copy of my latest ebook HAHAHA!!! Have I told you about my latest ebook yet?
