How much RAM should I get for my PC?

I like to have my PC on 365 days a year... Preferrably not having to restart it... And yes I enjoy having 5 programs open at once... My 1024 RAM is really getting tired.. So how much should I get to run smooth operations?

As much as your computer can hold...

eg,some pc's can only take a max of 2gigs or 4gigs..except teh new vista ones if you hook a usb it extends another 8gigs..

So my advice is find out what your pc is,and how much can be installed.

    Depends.

    What OS are you running?

XP can only use 2Gb RAM, Vista can use more.

I have 4 in mine along with vista, was a great decision to get the exta RAM.

Get 4 GB DDR3 RAM or DDR2 (as per your budget) and your PC should be able to stay on as long as u want it to :D and yea RAMs are getting cheaper these days

It depends on which OS you are using because if you are using XP then 2 GB enough for you and if you are using VISTA then you need 4 GB as it needs more in compare to XP :(

*twistedspikes can you confirm XP can only use 2... I run XP so if I get 4 that would be pointless?

Use 2-4GB, the more the better. Just make sure you get good RAM...800mhz or faster.

Look in your motherboard manual to see how much it can run.

hit ctrl+alt+del then click on the performance tab and try to locate the word peak there. there will be a value after Peak lets say its "1024000" remove 3 digits from the right side to make it look like "1024" and there u go that's the RAM u need. ( in kbs )

Note: run all the programs you run usually like 5 or 8 and then use then all together for about 5 minutes then do this :)

    Thanks.

1GB is sufficient for most tasks. Might want to go with 2GB just in case though, if you can afford it also.

The more the better, but 1 gig is already suitable unless you are into heavy gaming.
