$5/mo service won't take you anywhere in proxy business cause in the end you end up either forking more money for bandwidth overage charge or your visitors run away because your proxies response time sucks.

If you really really serious with proxies, skip shared hosting, VPS and go for dedicated server.

You really have to think twice on the fee they are charging you for this. Bandwidth anywhere in this world cost so much more then what you are paying for. That does not include hardware and so on...

True 5 mbps unmetered is 1600GB/month of bandwidth. There's no way you could get that for that price. I would go dedicated.

Theres no way of telling how many proxies it can handle, because it depends how much people visit your site, what sites they visit and if they are all on at the same time.

@shade88: As the bandwidth is unmetered, I won't have to pay extra on BW.

    @shade88, tanfwc, bts:
They have been in business for years and have a good reputation... don't know how they can get this low prices indeed...
Well, I want to start small and then expand... with a VPS this is quite easy as you can easy upgrade...
If I'm making profit I will buy a Dedicated Server

@Brennan: You are right, but what would you estimate what it can run ? 2-5 ?

That VPS won't hold up too well if your proxy sites are high-traffic/high-use.

Well, most questions already answered...I think you got that offer from MMEDV at WHT ;)

Anyway, the specs aren't good enough if your proxy gets enough traffic. The RAM and network will be the limiting factors. RAM usage can be minimized by using lighttpd+php on debian minimal OS...but what about the 5mbps limit? It'll max out if you get traffic.

    Yup ;)

It's a fairly small network on the moment, but you're right... I'll probably need a bigger package then

Proxy sites fail to survive on a vps so better go for a dedicated server.

    Heh...are you sure?

A 512MB RAM VPS with lighttpd+php with caching (eg - APC/eAccelerator) can handle quite a lot of proxy traffic... ;)

128 MB RAM......not even its going to handle 2 proxies.

Get at least 512 MB, and if the count if 7+, get 1 GB at least:)
