I think Google makes much more from AdSense than people suspect. This is encouraging Yahoo and MSN to become involved. I was developing a new AdWords campaign for a new website. Google wanted a minimum of $10 CPM for the search terms on a world-wide basis. By regionalizing it, I was able to get down to 10 cents per click. Site targetted ads may generate less revenue for you as the reseller of the space because advertisiers pay on a CPM basis. Google says, "You set the price you'd like to pay for each 1000 impressions the ad receives. Clicks don't matter -- you are charged whenever the ad is shown to a user." The current minimum CPM bid if 25 cents. I do not know how Google would know what to pay you for CPM ads as long as AdSense is paid on a per click basis.
While some of the large publishers may make this it is most likely a sliding scale based on traffic, but again this is a best guess and no one will ever know for sure most likely. The reason is that would be a trade secret they want to keep out the hands of their competitors like Yahoo. This is the reason you are not allowed to publicly display certain information from your adsense account. It can be used to get a picture of how they do business.
Maybe some of you may find this interesting: http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/internet/adwords-adsense-diagram.htm Scroll down below for a theory about payouts that sounds plausible to me.
Nice explanation and is very plausible. I got to the diagram and had my brain fry out on me at that moment and then rebooted it and read the rest below it. Great find.
LOL yea reminded me of the days in military and reading all those electrical diagrams on the BlackHawks. Gave me a headache.
Maybe on an average, but the 1 cent clicks have some validity as many on this forum can say they have received them.
Very interesting diagram. One thing it notes on that page is that the minimum AdWords bid is 5 cents and the lowest reported AdSense click payout is 1 cent. I have experienced lower numbers for both. While the minimum BID on AdWords may be 5 cents, I have some of my ads that go for 2-3 cents per click and I generate quite a bit of traffic from these keywords. I have also received a click the other day on AdSense that registered at 0 cents. It was the only click I had received that day (checked a little while after stats had rolled over) and it showed one click and nothing for earnings that day. Since it is possible to have an AdWords customer pay less than the 5 cent minimum and for an AdSense click to register for 0 cents, then maybe there is a threshold for the minimum click price Google will payout to an AdSense account.
