How much it costs to own an asp.net website

hi friends
i would like to know about the cost of an asp.net web site
i dont have any domain name and server space
i know a little bit of programming on .net
but i dont know to host the site and all
can you please explain these different procedures

anything from nothing to a thousands a month depending on exactly what you are wanting.

If it is a hobby site then free hosting may be all you need. If it is a small commercial site then a good shared hosting server should be fine in which case you are looking at circa $60 per year. If you are looking at something larger you are then into the area of either a virtual or dedicated server and prices start in the region of $75 a month for something reasonable and go up depending on the power of the server etc

 

You didn't say if you wants DB on your site or not?

 

Almost all hosting will include dbs of some description - free tends to limit to access or mysql both which work fine with .Net. Paid for often includes Ms SQL which is the more natural partner for .Net

 

It depends wht you want to create ,how big you want

For a simple website in asp .net with payment modules,search,DB,hosting etc will be $1500 for first year

Wow, it's nowhere near that expensive. You can get great ASP.Net hosting for $10/month + 3 months free with annual plan. Any add-ons like MySQL are extra though.

I'm in no way affiliated (well i am an affiliate, but this isn't my link because I don't want you to think I'm doing this for profit), but check out http://www.discountasp.net to see if you like it. They have won some awards, but I haven't had a chance to really stress my server to see how good it is personally.

 

We charge £30 ($60) a year for .Net hosting with MySQL db and we arent overly cheap. Dont know where people are looking for most of these prices

 

I Think prices have told you are above $60 To $100. One of my class fellow hosts its site sms.pakistan.sc in just $10 per year. It's the price in Pakistan . I think it is Poor country so that their server administrators ready to agree on low prices. Here when i see in the forum the rates i have shocked to high prices of their web servers . May be they live in a rich country !
You can host your site in Poor countries servers with low prices. i think !!.
sms.pakistan.sc is actually mysql supported but server also supports ms sql server.

 

I can second discountasp.net as an excellent ASP hosting company.

 

you can get good windows hosts for around $6-10 a month. Windows hosting tend to be a bit more expensive that linux hosting.

 

start your own iss server and ms sql express server. Does not cost much. It works fine from me but fast internet connection is needed. a 2mb/sec connection would work fine

 

SQL express is pretty good. I've used it quite a bit. You can even get full text search on it, you just need to make sure you install SP2 of it.
