I live in California and pretty much anywhere that's half decent costs at least $300k in the Bay Area, if not more. Renting would probably be at least $1,000 a month anywhere near San Francisco or Oakland. How about you guys?
Rent for a decent place here in Montreal is about $800/month. Mortgage would vary, but for a single family home, I would say most people are paying around $1500-$1800/month
I live in a motel in Los Angeles and I pay around $1200 a month. Not bad considering the rent prices in the area

I don't have a townhouse no more and been in this apartment for 4 years now. (Yea, the mortage went up during the economy crisis) Right now paying $980 for rent with FREE heat in the winter!!! I'm in NJ.
Wow, a lot of you guys have it pretty good. Would you guys agree that paying a rent that's no more than 1/3 of your net income is a good rule of thumb for affordability?
