First off, I apologize if this is in the wrong board but wasn't sure where else to put it. Mods, move if necessary. I have the following website www.reelracing.tv and am wondering how much, if anything, it is worth. There are currently no ads in place to earn any money and it receives only about 500+ uniques per month as I have not promoted it apart from putting it in my sig here and on some other forums. On the plus side, it is a custom template with a custom logo to match and is (at least in my opinion) very attractive in design. So what is the most you guys think I could get for this if I were to sell it now?
In my opinion it doesn't appear to be worth much. The logo looks too much like Saturday Morning Cartoons. The site design isn't that great either. It looks like it is nothing more than a Niche Video Site Builder site. It just didn't impress me that much. If you got $100 out of it... that would be a lot. Also the fact that you are using a .TV domain makes me wonder... was the .com not available? A potential buyer is going to know that they will lose a lot of traffic, because the .com is already taken, possibly to a competitor.
Yes the .com was taken but since I registered the domain back in July 2007 there hasn't been any development on that domain. And it is built on wordpress, not Niche Video Site Builder.
Yeah. I knew it had to be one of the two. I just figured Niche Video Site Builder since that has been promoted a lot of recent. Do some promotion and ditch the wordpress template for something like PHPMotion or Clip-Share. It is essentially like youtube and would be better in my opinion for a site like that. I think you have the option to prevent people from uploading videos with those scripts as well. Clip Share is at clip-share.com and phpmotion is at phpmotion.com. You create a site with either of those scripts installed and it will increase the value of your site.
How would those compare with wordpress on the SEO front though? To my understanding wordpress is out-of-the-box, very good for SEO and gets even better with the right plugins. This is the reason I chose it. Well, that and the fact that someone here developed a fight videos website that got very successful and it used wordpress.
As far as I know both a search engine optimized much like YouTube.com videos are. If you really want WordPress to work well for what you are doing you are going to have to make some SEO optimized text based posts. Just throwing some videos up won't work. You need to put some unique content in addition to the videos. The text also needs to be optimized for the keywords you are after. WordPress is great for SEO, but you have to add content to reap the benefits of that. Google can't crawl videos. The scripts I suggested are better in that they provide tags, titles, descriptions, etc. that you can add to the video that the search engines will see and crawl. Also it is setup more like a community whereas wordpress is more like the static web 1.0 sites. Yes you can make comments, but you really need it setup so users can register and communicate with each other. Even moreso you could allow video uploads and users could upload their own racing videos. This gives a reason for users to come back. My first suggestion would be to switch to a better setup. If the video scripts are too much for you then switch up your theme. Make certain you are using tags, because that will create links to your site. Use as many relevant tags as possible. This will create both inbound links and traffic. Also create categories for the videos. A user may be looking for a different type of video than what is on the landing page. If you have this stuff on your site, just disregard. I got tired of switching back and forth between the DP and your Site to see what you had exactly. My final suggestion is to go to eBay and look for "SEO Made Easy". This will give you the basics for what you need to do SEO wise to build up your sites traffic and value. Start creating as many backlinks as possible, in addition to the forum marketing you have been doing. Just make certain they are relevant links. A backlink from a computer repair site isn't relevant to racing... so google won't value it as much as getting a backlink from a nascar.com blog.
That ebook is selling illegally on ebay. Its a free ebook, with a disclaimer at the start of it by the original author saying so.
Brad Callen's SEO Made Easy **NOTE: This product may not be sold as a standalone product and may only be given away as a free gift or bonus product. My guess would be that I got this as one those bonuses... You know... Buy one ebook and get 1000 ebooks you could care less about for free... That is just a sign I have bought too many ebooks in the last year. Can't keep track of where I got which ebook. In that case, I can give it to you for free.
