    Hello,

What is the normal rate per hour for programming PHP?
What is the best place to find programmers?

I am interested as I am wanting a few small projects done but I would like to know the general costs as I hear it can be quite expensive.

Well, that really depends on how well you want the job done. The range is anywhere from $5-$80 an hour.

$5 will get you buggy code that barely works and is full of ugly hacks, whereas $80 will get you beautiful, working, debugged, commented code that's easy to read and expand on in the future.

there's really no standard rate when you're freelancing, it depends on how skilled you are and how much the client is willing to pay for your services :)

it depends on type of project, experience of programmer and their financial situation at the time ... probably nowadays freelancers give discounts ...

what is the project about ?
maybe you can get all you are looking for in the myriad of open source cms's (http://www.cmsmatrix.org)
or is it custom coding you need ?

Basically the project cost depends on , a) project details b) Where from you get the work done. For an example if you hire a coder from Asia then the project cost will be low. Like "Project details"= a unique price , "Asia coder" = low cost, "Europe or USA"=high rate

    so if you multiply

("Project details" X "Asia coder" )< ("Project details" X "Europe or USA")

Simple PHP script, without accurate formating : 15$/hour
High quality PHP script, with appropriate code formatting and commenting : 35$/hour

Totally depends on what type of project you are doing ..

    It also depends on country.
    Indian programmers are cheap
where UK and USA programmers are costly.
I am Indian and my rates are $10/hr

You should be able to get decent code for 8$ an hour - and for that the programmer should not have to spend time wondering why his array won't loop over. In other words you shoud be able to see progress .. If its HTML code $5 an hour.

If its complex motha foooking code that has never been done before oooh, I'd charge 500$ an hour :p

If a programmer charges by the hour how do you know how many hours the site actually took?
Do lots of freelancers take a flat rate for an entire job?

A simple coding job you can get a good coder from around, $15/hour. If you require a good quality script it can go higher around $30 an hour, but lately i have noticed with all the cheap coders coming in the higher quality coders providing prices for the hole job instead of per hour which is better in most cases becuase the coder does not lose out on the low prices and the client gets a good price aswell.

Any coder should be able to quote for a job as a whole. Beginners will quote 100$ for a project and it will take them 2 weeks to finish it. A pro will quote 100$ and have it done in a day.

Which makes more sense besides paying both by the hour...
