I've read on Fortune Magazine of June an article when Microsoft tried to buy out Yahoo. As per a study of Microsoft the online advertising is a 40 billions dollar market and it will double by 2011.
can you be more specific? Internet Marketing is not really an industry or a business, although the term is often used as such Marketing via the Internet is what the term REALLY means, so....you can't really quantify it unless you get specific. When Apple does Ads for an Ipod on Myspace, thats "internet marketing" The MUSIC INDUSTRY does a TON of "internet marketing". The Music "industry" spends 100s of millions on IM, yet it is itself a multi-billion dollar industry. (see billboard.biz) I am assuming you are referring to people who sell products online...usually information there are stats out for that, but again you have to be specific. Not all info marketers work from home...is that what you are concerned about? Not all products are digital, some are physical...does that matter to you? Narrow down to some specifics of what you are trying to measure, and I am sure you will find a TON of information about those particular "industries"
About 21 billion dollars 2007. Still growing fast even in these times. The market has grown for about 20-30% each year during the last years. For 2008 it will probably grow somewhere between 10-20% For more information check my blog post at: Why online advertising won't be crushed by the financial crisis
what is that based off of? Internet "ADVERTISING" thats not the same as internet marketing also, usually only takes account toth emajor players like Google Adwords, and on major sites like Myspace. but ignores independent sites for say like "name pros" which you pay direct for advertising. also its mostly banner, payperclick and general media. What about sponsorships? are they calculated? Revenue shares? not usually. Again, I say, the OP question can't be answered without specifics
Thanks business coach for your reply. I think a few questions raise to mind with your reply. In that case How much dollars of information products eg digital products were sold in 2007 ? or how much money was affiliate marketing worth in 2007 ? I guess thess are the kinda questions that can only be answered by clickbank ? I'd be greateful for reply as this will go towards my final year dissertation. Michael
there will be metrics on affiliate marketing, because of info gathered from the big aggregators like clickbank. However it only takes those into effect, companies like Jupiter I believe give industry Estimations...remember they are estimates. I don't believe anyone has an accurate account of digital products as there are so many doing it on their own. I can think of 3 people who do over xxx,xxx and at least 2 doing x,xxx, xxx in 2007 I have done over a million in sales digitally...but not exclusively digital products... I'm just trying to say, none of us could be counted. Who knows besides us, our employees, friends, family and IRS...it's not publicly available. and probably too low to show up on most "radar" that tries to figure this stuff out. Focus on affiliate marketing, you will probably get the most reliable data in regards to that. Clickbanks site probably even has some estimates on it somewhere
But is there at least some news site about it ? I mean not marketing advices but market size ? So financial side of things.
