I was wondering what you guys think I should charge. I am a pretty good writer, who knows structure, and can be pretty clear.

How much should be my starting charge per 100 words?

I need some help with this.

    Thank you.

Well, right now I'm paying 2.5c per word for a native English speaker... Most non native English speakers charge 1c per word. If I were you I'd write a few articles and put them online.. write a really good sales pitch.. charge cheap for the first 5 people. Get a few itraders. Now you have your foot in the door.

Sure, easier said then done but it's a start. If you have a blog, let the buyers know that so they can see your writing style.

If/when you do have your services post- let me see it. Maybe I would want a press release or something.

average standard going rate used be 1 cent per word but even that price seemed too expensive as buyers were always looking for unrealistic high quality error free articles for very cheap prices like $2-$3 per 400+ word unique article.

the competition for writing jobs and amount of cheaper writers tend to drive down the price as well

just spend a little time looking thru the content creation section, taking note of the prices and which writers are getting lots of work in their threads etc.

you pay for what you get - there are reasonable cheaper writers around but they are often swamped in work and delivery is slow and unreliable. Takes time, trial and error to find good reliable ones.

I really don't know how writers that get paid 1 cent per word can stick at it. I would not be able to work for less than minimum wage in such a time consuming task like writing and researching.

India, my friend. some of them do write well too but I've heard all of the excuses anyone can think of.. you need to explain everything in detail and its like you need to think for them. This is not me bashing a country but just the people I have worked with.. from that country.

However, its best to let the buyers know your niches that you can write about-- maybe your really good at writing about science. So your writings will show that..

are you a programmer? can you write tech articles? well- good! but this is the wrong place to look if you want to get paid 'by the hour' for writing. :)

    I've outsourced articles for $1 - $5 here on DP ..

It's a matter of quality. The $1 articles can definitely not be published on respectable article directories.

The least money I am willing to work for is $7 for a 500 word article. I believe I have good researching skill and great brainstorming powers to write about any topic. I also believe that I can provide good quality articles for that price.

Are people willing to pay that type of price here on the Digital Forum Room?

Or do they look for cheaper writers?

I think its 1 - 1.5 cent each word for article writers depending on their quality of writing.
