I have access to an interesting offer I'd like to get input on. A very popular site in my market (Alexa under 500) has a list of recommended sites on the left hand site of almost every page of the site, above the fold, which provides exposure to the link of about 4 million uniques per month, 30 million page views. There are normally ten text links in the section, but one advertiser left and there is one spot available. Rank in the list depends on "seniority" of advertiser, so would be last link to start. They say they don't have specific CTR info because the link points directly to the customer's site. Pagerage is 9 (!!!) on the home page, 3.5M Google links, 6.8M Yahoo links. What do you think? How much is it worth? Would represent most likely almost all my advertising budget, which might not be such a good thing, but depending on ROI...
It depends on the niche. Celebs or Real Estate is not the same thing A high traffic PR9 link costs a lot. Even more if it DO follow. Even more now when Google decreased everyone's PR.
The link is a do-follow, the market is web site development and the PR of the page varies from 7 to 9, but the link does appear on the home page which is PR9. And the number of links is correct, I checked 2 sources.
Perry Rose - I understand that the numbers sound crazy, but they are correct. Its not my site, there is no point for me to inflate the numbers. I'm looking to see if getting a link there is worth the price they are asking. I want to see what people would pay/think its worth.
It would be kind of dumb for him to tell you. 10 seconds later you'll be on that page trying to get his spot. How much is it though? You keep asking if it's worth it but haven't said how much they ask.
lol yeah, that's it. Just from what he said they told him, I know NOT to do it. Besides, most of those types of avenues don't work that well, compared to the price that is paid. And there are plenty of "spots," I'm sure. With advertisers going in and out on a regualr basis. there always is. I'm just curious on who is stupid enough to say they get 3.5M Google links and 6.8M Yahoo links. But, there will always be plenty to believe it. Somebody go get P.T. Barnum. Oh, wait, he's dead. Never mind.
The number if links is what is reported from urltrends.com, which I believe is a reliable source. In terms of pricing, I was hoping to get others to give me some idea of the value of such a link before I say it, but it seems it won't happen, so here it is. It would cost 1700 Euros per month to get that link. I don't know why Perry Rose is on my case, I don't even know him.
Well consider whether or not you think you can make more than 1700/month with it.. that seems like a pretty steep amount per month. Anyway, if you decide not to do it let us know or send me a PM, I'm very curious even though I'm never going to pay that much unless revenue is near guaranteed / it's a highly synergetic website for my content.
For that kind of money the least they could do would be to buy some tracking software for their advertisers. If nothing else, they could look at their logs and see how many people exit from those advertising links. I would pass. That's too pricey for me without knowing how much traffic that area of the page generates. It breaks down to about .42 CPM. But they got you by the b@lls, because there are not that many pr 9 sites around. How many other outbound links do they have on that page? What is the pr of your site? Is this a sitewide link (I assume so)? How many pages do they have indexed? Be careful. If you have not been aggresively building links and have a good pr of your own, having so many high pr pages pointing to your site so quickly might set off a red flag.
I also find it kinda odd that they can't provide even an idea of how many clicks I can expect, a range, somthing. I'm leaning towards not doing it, as I said it would jam all the marketing budget I have. I'll talk to them see if the price is negotiable, get some kind of stats, etc. and get back to you.
From your messages, it seems like it's a website about web development.. that market being pretty large, I can see big web design companies buying a PR9 link like this since their market generates a lot of money but lots of competition. If you're just a small runt though it's probably not useful.
lol sorry, Vincent. I just think it's really odd why you won't say the URL. And did you know that by giving the URL we can better help you? Anyway, never mind that now. I hope everything works out for you. Sorry for getting on your case. ~
He thinks you would try to steal his spot if it's a good offer. I understand him for not sharing, I guess.
Ok, think here, I mean, REALLY, think... It is JUST an advertising spot. That's it. Yeah, let me rush to a site to spend money.
At this point I probably wont do it, as I dont want to put all my marketing eggs in one basket... The site is www.statcounter.com There, you have it. Maybe I can get more reviews now that you have the URL? Cheers,
