I believed him at first but now after reading other member post I was driven to my senses. I doubt anyone would offer that much for a forum and definitely doubt that someone would turn such an offer down.

Okay, it is a pretty impressive figure. However, Shaun probably makes a hell of a lot from advertising anyway, and from his services...and I would rather keep this generous income, and at the same time remain with the pride of saying "I own DP" :D

That's crazy. Shawn probably doesn't even have to manage this forum anymore, yet still earns a huge sum of money. :D I'd sell this forum if I were him and retire, haha.

I don't have an inside knowledge on this, but $16M really isn't that much money to some companies. Especially if you are publicly traded, you pretty much have a license to print money (issue stock), so it's not like $16M is $16M out of a person's pocket.

That being said... if it was indeed a legitimate offer (not some guy with no money offering it to him), good for him that he turned it down. Everyone flipping their stuff to make a quick buck these days is annoying. :)

Hell, every once in awhile I get a serious offer for someone to buy the keyword tracker (usually around $750 per user)... At 65,472 registered users, that would work out to just under $50M. I think the companies wanting it are more after the historical data as a whole, vs. the users and tool itself... historical rankings for millions of keywords/sites across years and across multiple search engines probably has some value to some company. :)

I don't believe him. I fail to believe how he can get $16 million offer for that. It would be interesting to know how much Wickedfire makes on a monthly basis.

It's all about who the buyer is. It could make zero direct revenue and still have value to someone. Even without the small revenue we make from running Google ads, there's a HUGE indirect value for having a large user base. For example, when I come out with something new, it's really easy to get a zillion people to adopt whatever it is pretty quickly since there's a large captive audience. So things like the Ad Network and Geo Visitors wouldn't have gotten so huge overnight without the existing userbase.

The way I look at it is this... would $50M (or whatever amount) improve the quality of my life? It wouldn't, so what's the point?

So then, why do you get annoyed if others do want to improve the quality of their life?

I'm not annoyed with that part of it... annoyed when someone sells a site and then everything that made it good changes.

SEO Chat is a perfect example of that.

OK I see what you mean.

Stelios Ioannou, the guy behind the Easy Group (and son of filthy rich shipping magnate) put it nicely last week in a BBC special on how the wealth in the UK is divided... He said that £10 million did the job for him, that buys you anything you want. Beyond that, like you said, it doesn't add any/much value. Having said that, he's worth just short of a billion I think... And 10m is still squanderable. I'd aim for 25...

At first, I believed this ridiculous claim but after some critical thinking, I came to the conclusion that it is idiocy to believe. First of all, if you're a millionaire, you're smart enough not to make someone a huge offer up front unless you think the website is worth tons more than you're offering. Despite its membership, I do NOT think WF is worth that much.

Even if it were worth that much and I did have millions to blow on websites, I would start the bid at something reasonable ... like $5,000.00.

He does say he was given a previous offer at a few million, but how can we believe that? There is no proof.

My thinking is that he is trying to set a minimum bid for the website once someone does want to buy it. He's thinking "if other people have offered me $16M and i've turned them down, no one will offer me less if they want the website."

It makes sense from his perspective but from the perspective of someone who would take the first offer without even blinking, I believe he is full of it.

It is possible, but until there is some proof .. I am not going to be fooled into thinking this is true.

DP on the other hand.. now that, I would buy. ;)

You could trade in the H2 and get a Phantom, Maybach, Veyron, SLR, F430, LP640, Enzo, and a host of others. Not that I don't doubt you already own a few of these in addition to the H2. ;)

There is no proof for ANYTHING about the 16m offer. So don't believe it until there is

I don't understand why nobody believes this guy? He makes millions on affiliate advertising, why would he lie? If the KW tracker is worth $50m to somebody (assuming you guys are willing to believe Shawn) then a forum of top affiliate marketers could be worth $16m.

Either way if you offered $5k he would have put the phone down.
