Somebody offered Wickedfire $16 million for the forum. That's $4820 per forum member.

Its got 6,200 threads and DP has 200,000 threads. That makes DP 32 times bigger and worth a staggering $512 million.

Digg it and see where it goes.

What the hell, dude. $16 million for hardly any work? He should at least try to work out some kind of deal where he would remain admin or something.

EDIT: Didn't realize that was mook_jon. :p That changes some things. But I really understand the whole thing about it being your baby...how often do you see bigtime acquisitions where the CEO(s) totally relinquish control? Flickr wouldn't have sold at all if Caterina Fake, etc didn't get to move to Yahoo! HQ....

Nice thread title, if only valuations were that linear. Impressive story though.

The value of a business is always very relative... And regardless of all the valuations, at the end of the day its worth what someone is willing to pay!

Precisely. Of course, you don't see things like this that often because anyone mentally deficient enough to offer $16 million for that forum shouldn't even have $16 million.

I wouldn't say that it was hardly any work. I know mook_jon worked his ass off on WF. But yeah, I agree with everything else you said.

Of course he worked his ass off. I meant in terms of amount of time - 8 months.

Am I the only one here who needs a lot more convincing?
The forum doesn't look like it's worth $160k, let alone $16million.

I think it looks and sounds cooler than DP, but no way is it worth that much. Take into account the huge publicity that he's getting from this, I (for one) now know about his forum. Also, I can call up whoever I want and say I'm Joe Bloggs from BagsofMoney Corp. and offer $16 million, that's what happened to him during the '12 minute phone call', it wouldn't surprise me if it was a competitor or a prank.

On another side note which I just thought about... why are people so 'anti-selling' their sites all of a sudden? If I had an offer for $16 million I'd take the money and create a much better site, giving back to the users in some way.
