I'm thinking about what to do with a few computers I have doing nothing (only two). I could hook them up with a master and slave hard drive of high quality and a few external ones for backup purposes and sell the ability for people to back up their information. Before I look into how I would do this, I'm wondering exactly how much I would charge or whatnot for this particular service. Anyone know?
There are a number of companies out there that do this with dedicated servers on redundant backbones. Companies like BQInternet http://www.bqinternet.com/ have some very good deals on storage that might give you an idea what people are willing to pay. I am not trying to discourage you at all but most people will not feel safe with someone just putting a couple hard drives in a computer. You need to look into having your servers set up in a raid array for redundancy, multiple connections to the internet for failover. That way if one goes down your clients can still reach your server to retrieve their data. For my web hosting I run a raid array as well as nightly backups for redundancy. Hope this gives you an idea of things you might need to look at. John
Well I planned on nightly backups and I planned on networking the servers together. As far as connections to the internet do you mean more than on ISP?
