We usually watch movies on our wall with a projector about a 10'-12' diag screen.

I've never bought a hot dog at a theater either. The popcorn/soda combo for 2 usually runs $10-$12. One local theater sells hummus - I think it was going for about $5.

Concessions is how theaters make the majority of their money. It's not surprising they charge whatever they can get away with. Although, this is true at pretty much all tourist type places as well. When I was in DC over a decade ago, I paid $4.00 for a hot dog from a street vendor.

    I think they run about $3.00 here. I haven't got one at a movie theater before I don't think. I usually get nacho's. :)

Yep, love Netflix - next up, "Dangerous Beauty," (again), "Waitress" and "The Snapper" (I met Colm Meany once - nice guy, and we love this movie). Drag is we also just got cable, and made the mistake of allowing ourselves to hit "the TV zone" far too often. Obliterates my writing schedule, and the pools of drool below our collective soulless faces are getting to be an embarrassing pain in the ass. :D

    What is UCI?

Everyone use to laugh at our 19" big screen we got.....

So I bought an old projector on EBay for $350 about 5 years ago, painted and framed a spot on the wall and hooked up a cheap surround sound DVD to it. So in it for about $500 total and we have used it for the last 5 years. The projector isn't the brightest or best but it sure beats going to the theatre. (especially when you have a few kids!!)

No overpriced snacks or missing scenes due to bathroom breaks. Also, still no hot dogs, but since when do you eat a dog when watching movies?

While I would never actually eat a hotdog at the movie theater, they run $4.00 here.

I hope they also sell beer in our country... anyway, we don't follow the legal age limit for a person to drink beer. But our hotdog costs only a dollar.

I disagree...there's something to be said for the experience of seeing a good movie with a bunch of people that are excited to be there. When I went to see Star Wars (Episodes 1,2, & 3) on opening night, the crowd was always amped and reactive. Even though the movies sucked, there were still plenty of moments which elicited cheers and applause from the audience. The same thing happened recently when I saw "The Dark Knight" on IMAX.

Are theaters overpriced? Absolutely. But that sense of expectant excitement present in a full theater is impossible to duplicate at home.

Same here. I was able to use an unneeded projector from work, hooked it up to my surround system and put the TV in the corner. That was 2 years ago, never looked back. We don't run ours that large, maybe 5' diag, but it is great. The only drawback is that watching TV during the day is a little washed out since we don't have a high end projector with really bright capability. But since we don't really watch tv during the day, it is not a big problem.

My projector is sounding a little loud, so I am thinking of an upgrade. Unless you got money to burn, I don't see why anyone would pay thousands for a big screen TV, when a projector for much less can get you a really nice giant screen - which is awesome for watching movies and Laker games!

    Sounds Great!

What kind of projector can you hook up to TV or DVD? Can you find one on ebay?

Most projectors have RCA, S-video and vga connections - even the old ones like I have.

I think most will have the connections you need. Mt projector was purchased for presentations from a computer, but at home I just took the video output from my cable box/DVR and run them straight into the projector. I take the sound output and run it to my surround sound component. One nice side effect is that I can run the audio to any show with the projector off. A much nicer way to listen to all those free music stations my cable company provides.

I connect to both using standard RCA connectors.

    LOL
    Was teasing you.
The houses round here are so small that only a multimillionare would have a
    projector.
UCI is a chain of cinemas in the UK, and that would make you megarich.
I didn't eat the hotdog, it was the kids.
The local cinemas tend to screen a lots of the kids movies on a Saturday at a 12.00 noon start.
Buy a hotdog or have them moan they are hungry.
    It was Batman incidentally.
    I really liked it
