How Much Important Is Homepage Content ?

i wonder how much important is homepage content compared to other pages in a website from seo point of view.

 

You should optimize your homepage to reach a high ranking of course. But the homepage is usually the first page visitors see. If they don't like it, they'll leave right away.

Creating an attractive and optimized homepage is vital, especially in higher competitive niches. Not just from SEO point of view but also from visitor's point of view.

 

i know the importance of homepage from the visitors point of view but what i am asking is do the search engines rank you higher based on quality of the homepage or the whole website with no special consideration for the homepage.

 

You treat the homepage like you would any other page of your site. Generally speaking you want to target the most competitive keyword on the homepage because it will be considered the most important page of your website.

 

just leave flash off of it!.. Its terrible for SEO and can piss people off especially if they are on dial up

 

thanks you are very helpful but i still need more clarification does search engines put more importance on homepage than any other page and if so should i put more real content on my homepage other than introduction and links to other pages because usually our most important content is on other pages.

 

To some extent your question is already answered.

So, make it just as good as your other pages and you should do fine with search engines.

 

What I've found is that the home page ranks highly for the general term (or keyword phrase) for my niche and the other pages rank for their specific keyword phrases even if the home page has a specific keyword phrase in the content. This is because Google relies on the page title, page description, h1 tags, links back to specific pages, etc. to help rank the page. You can't get every keyword you want to rank for in the home page so build out pages for each keyword where you want to rank rather than trying to rely on the home page.

It's the 1st page most visitors come on.. So it has more importance!

 

What i know Search eingines deals with each page separately will not take a total of your website and this is very important point so you have to optimize each page according to the keywords you want to rank with ..

 

It is very important!, for visitors-it is the very first page they will be looking at and if the design or content isn't good they might just close in immediately... for spider-the very first page they'll crawl at...

 

The first page of your site is like your face. It has to be good for people to develop interest to see your other offerings.

I have my doubts but even if every page is the same for search engine, I would still not take the risk of not putting my best content on the home page.

This is just my view so I am not sure how much weight you want to put on it, I recieve just as many hits to my sub pages as my home page and I did this by treating all of my pages as equals and making sure content is updated on all of them equally and anchor tags are optimized as well as metas and the rest of seo. Anyway I find that if you treat your sub pages as possible landing pages it is much more likely to increase your traffic since you will have many more keywords and rank well on more serp pages.

 

i think that homepage is by far the most important page from my expirience. my website usually apear in the first or second page of most search engines for my homepage keywords but apears much lower for my other pages keywords.

 

It would be pointless to optimise internal site pages with the same keywords as your homepage and of each other. So to answer your question: optimise your homepage for 3 keywords/phrases and stick to that. Your internal pages should be optimised specifically for the content on each page.

Your homepage, in my opinion, should be your main focus for SEO. If your homepage ranks well, your other pages will follow.

 

if your inner pages are going to link to the homepage then the content is crucial for raking well. It is a silo effect that snowballs. other sites link to innerpages ->to homepage. simple maths
