Interlinking or Internal Linking would benefits you if you have done "properly". Overdoing on this could harm your site ranking more than help. I would recommend these for get the most of your internal linking. 1. You should link between pages that relevant to each other if possible. 2. If you want to link back from inner pages to homepage with the preferred anchor text, I would recommend to only one place and it should be header. Avoid double linking back to homepage on both header and footer, with the similar anchor texts. It could harm your site too. 3. Watch out the number. I would recommend not over 100 links for each inner page.
