Would you say that it is a Must Do to have your website listed on DMOZ? I have just recently taken a notice to it, but im unsure on how mush importance people place on it and having their website listed there?
Its just a link like any other link.Nothing special about it. Given it takes a few minutes to suggest a site, is that not worth it if you get a link? How much time do you pout into getting other links? Submit once to the one best category with a guideline compliant title and description, then move on. There is nothing more you can do. It may or may not get listed.
So DMOZ is nothing more than another web directory? Granted it is a good one with high traffic, PR, DA, etc.. ?
It just another web directory, yes. It is however one of the better ones; it is the biggest and fastest growing, but its no magic bullet for your search engine rankings.
It definitely help to build authority to a site. It's the first link I build on a new site as it can take an age to get accepted. One tip is to search the directory first for your niche so that you are 100% sure it is the most fitting category. Nothing worse than waiting three months to wait another three because your submission is in the wrong category!
Fastest growing? That's a funny one, considering the usual complaints about how long, etc. Really, who cares about DMOZ. Better off with a link from an industry-relevant site.
DMOZ is used by search engines on the internet. The search engines spider, but much spider, everything. Yes, you must have listed website, the benefits from a quality listing may come from a ranking’s boosts from other searching engines.
What planet might you be from? Care to explain all those sites that rank well without a DMOZ listing?
Dmoz USED TO be important. Perhaps, 3-5 years ago it was very truly important within the visibility of your website. Now, a link from DMOZ is just another link from a directory. Also, Matt Cutts recently mentioned that weight of directories is now determined by the quality of results and their criteria for acceptance. DMOZ isn't great in that. So, the value of a Dmoz backlink and the effort and acceptance chance is certainly not viable now.
I treat DMOZ as a bonus, if I can get a site in then it's great. If not then I have better things to do with my time than trying again immediately, maybe next time.
It is simply a directory....a good one, but not a magic link. Spend as much time on your seo as you do chasing the DMOZ link and you will be far better off.
get dmoz link will give you little bit authority and a good quality link period. however nothing magical here
So do you sit there and check DMOZ categories daily for new additions? If so, you missed the 10k or so sites that were added last month alone. (just an estimation)
