How much importance does google gives to the original content?

Discussion in 'Google' started by web01, Jan 2, 2009.

I have been writing unique articles for my site each day to rank higher than all other sites. But, it seems that google does not have any importance for the unique content of my site. The sites which have posted the already posted articles in article directories such as buzzle, ezine are ranking higher than my site. This is strange that the first two results for that particular keyword, for which even my site is optimized are those copied articles from article directories which have already been indexed by the google at these article directories.

I hope you have understood what i am trying to ask?

Content is the king for your visitors if it's valuable. Link building and promotion are important to be able to show your content to your future visitors.

Unique content can only be a good thing. Like kanwarjot said, build backlinks as well. If you writing articles for your own site, i.e. posting them on your own site, do not submit all of them to ezine/ goarticles etc. Reserve some (most!) articles purely for your own site and start to build links via other means than article writing.

Content is the key to achieve visitors with quality and target. But a good deed is the construction of backlinks to rise in rank

Unique content is important of course but not the be all and end all. You will need backlinks, an optimised website structure, optimised meta data and ideally time (months to years) to let Google gain trust in your site.

Having said that, keep up the original content and you will soon get lots of longtail driven traffic :)

content is way more important than backlinks

onpage optimisation along with great content and 22 backlinks got me a pr3 in less than a month.
this goes to prove that backlinks are not as important as the content.

    enough said.

From the guidelines - they care a lot.
In reality - they don't give a fupp. Just check serp's all over the web and check for yourself.

The search engines cannot tell quality, but the users can. The search engines can test for a lot of things (supposedly Google's algorithm contains 200 variables), but they cannot really tell which site is best. That is why they rely on backlinks and that is why some backlinks carry more weight than others.

Ultimately, originality and quality are important, but to really rank well with the search engines, you need links from quality sites to your site.

My experience has been that sometimes G will catch and penalize a site with duplicate content and in other cases a site will get away with it ... at least for a while. The more your content is like "news" the less likely you are to get slapped for having duplicate content but then that also means there are probably a lot of other sites with the same content so you probably won't rank high for those pages anyway.

what a load of nonsense answers.

its very simple, Google dont care at all who wrote it first and will rank the version with the best links / authority.

    its that simple.

SEOibiza - care to enlighten us with some facts? If that's true then why would they even mention duplicate content in the webmaster guidelines? So I guess all the crap about quality content doesn't matter either and the only thing that does matter in SEO is getting backlinks without being caught?

Trust is also a factor. Try an experiment with your next article. Submit it to Ezinearticles and watch it rank within days. Yet the same content will not rank on your own domain.

The first task at hand is to get your site recognized as an authority. There are several ways to do that. When you become favored or trusted by Google your site content will rank, IMO.

Content might be more important than backlinks, ONLY if it going to get a lot of links

So Content is important, BUT Backlinks are more important that content ;)

You need to optimize page properly and as other have already mentioned, you need links as well. Google finds pages with the help of incoming links. And when coming to links, go for quality. Site with few quality links can outrank a site with huge number of crappy irrelevant links.

it depends on lots of things, including the NATURE of the content. It's quite possible to rank highly for 'blue lizard sphincter clasp enhancement measuring rods' with no backlinks but some *unique* content.

No amount of unique content however will let you rank for 'credit cards'. For that you need backlink juice, and lots of it.

Content is the main thing, but you also need backlinks to help it gain high serp.
