Now I have always been a big believer in backlinks, but have ran into a problem. I do have decent position in the serps for a few of my keywords, but have noticed that some of my competitors have hardly any backlinks, but are ranked above me so I was hoping I could get some help on what other aspects I need to focus on. I have also been doing keyword research and increasing the density of keywords. I also worked on meta tags. What else can help me get better position in the Google SERPs?
Look at the quality of sites that are linking to you - Relevant links are what google are going to mark you highly on - Irrelevant links to your site are not as good! - check out the newsletter in my link
Definitely the quality and relevancy of your links matter. A good idea is to go through your competitors links using a backlink analyzer tool to have a look at where they are getting their links from.
I think good design of your site and high quality backlinks could help you have a good position on search engines.
Not only number of backlinks matter in serps, relevancy as well as the pr of the linking site also matter for serp position.
I write an article recently, if any of your back link is a bad site, you will be penalized as well. by bad site I mean blogging sites that sells links to other sites. so, if one of you back links is a site that has poor PR, your site will suffer as well.
Age of domain carries a lot of weight with google I think. I had the same problem. There was a single page made for Adsense page that outranked mine for a long time simply because it was old.
Your on-site SEO might not be up to par as well. Is your keyword your trying to rank for in your page title? you post title? in your text body a few times? does it show up in your anchor text? Are there other pages that point to the page you want to rank from inside your site? All these things add up...
Good website design, relevant links, high quality links and link anchor texts are some of the things which contribute to that SEO factor. For eg: 1 links from a technology website to a gadget website is any day better than 5 links from a technology website to construction website which doesn't have any connection in the category.
Its true, the best back links are from high PR back link pages. I recommend getting seoquake to find some great blogs, social Web sites, forums that have a good PR. Good Luck
All correct. The best backlinks are relavant and aged. also...the better links are .com, followed by .net, .biz, etc.
