I was just on the Yahoo Ad Network checking out the cost per click of a particular keyword phrase, and I was shocked to see the top spot costing $6.60 per click. I know that is not particularly high compared to some keywords, but it struck me how easy it would be to spend $50 - $100 in a very short time. I mean I can buy a pizza for $6.60... and that will get me one measily click on the Yahoo ad network. This raised two questions: 1. How many people have spent money on PPC for very little results? 2. Is this another example of how big corporations are pricing the little guy out of the arena to protect their market share? Please share your thoughts. J
thats because you cant always just use keywords like mortgage and your picking the wrong niche if your having to pay that much per click try being more specific with your keywords or pick a different product to advertise
you can try smaller PPC programs like 7search.com and adbrite.com. They cost lesser. so when you get more familiar with them on how your keywords priced. Then only you go for the big PPC programs like Adwords and Yahoo Ad Network.
Hi mintoj, You are right....looking at it this way... But you should look at the whole value chain If you choose your keyword right AND you write your ads great AND you landing page rocks your conversions may be so good that you can make money on a high cost keywords as well!!! The big question is HOW one can do it? 2 ways: 1.The long way --> trial and error (and spend money, a lot of money) 2. Learn from what others are doing - Spy tools and Keyword research tools Be sure that anyone uses PPC is loosing money on any new campaign till it is tweaked and optimized. Cheers, Emil
A lot of people fall into the trap of thinking that just plonking a few keywords and writing some general ad copy into an account will make them millions. It's not that easy, and doing that will lose you money. There are a lot of tricks to the trade, but the real art is in the structuring. PM me if you would like a free demo account made up for you. I've worked pretty hard doing everything right in PPC (very targeted adgroups, LPs, ads, etc..) - lost about $250 so far but profiting about $50 - $100 / day now from it... PPC is not for the lazy.
How Much Have You Lost With PPC Advertising? Nothing out my pocket. I lost about $300 in free advertising money. How many people have spent money on PPC for very little results? I don't know how many people but I get very little results. I learned a lot from it. Is this another example of how big corporations are pricing the little guy out of the arena to protect their market share? Hmmm... I doubt it. People should do more research before jumping in. (I am in that group as well when it comes to PPC)
I think maybe you should ask the question how much money have you made from ppc advertising? These are the people you want to learn from not from people losing money. Like said in here prior ppc is like an art. You need to find longtail keywords you can get for a low cpc. I am not sure how advertisers are making a good return when they pay 6.00 per click that ads up quickly. PPc is something you will get better results over time unfortunately mostly by trial and error.
You can lose a lot on PPC before you get it right, but what you learn while you're losing money should help you understand how to tweak, until you are making money. Once you are making money, make it back a hundred times over.
your not optimising the words correctly...you need to look at words that have low bid and high volume...check out wordtracker
Well in the beginning when i started with PPC I lost a good $400 bucks or so. Quit for a couple years. THen I stumbled upon a really really good converting niche. I figured lets give it a shot. Now I'm averaging about 150% profit from adwords campaigns. Some days are slow though like sundays (Sundays I always break even, or even lose a few bucks) But overall throughout the whole week, I only make money!
I've never lost any money with ppc. It's all been chalked up as business & educational expenses. I've learned more from unsuccessful campaigns than from the one hit homeruns.
Isn't this a contradiction? You either have or you haven't, regardless of how you want to discuise it. J
I've lost about $100, only tested PPC out once and although I made a bit of money in sales I never re-couped everything and was $100 down. Will try it again no doubt but would need to be more careful and read up on PPC before I dive in again.
