How much for a good logo?

I am wondering how much a good professional designer would charge to design a logo for a website. I approached a designer and was quoted $1000 for my classifieds site. I looked at simple logos like Google's and Facebook's and I don't think its takes that much to design something like that. The logos are good yet simple. So how much do you think a professional designer would charge for a good logo?

$1000 is too much expensive. I'm not a professional designer but I think I can make one for an affordable rate.

if you talk about professional designer, then the cost can up to few thousand.
It is all depend on your budget, some part time designer also able to provide great logo, and they charge is about $10~$50

Some so called professional logos can end up looking rubbish to the vast majority. Just look at the 2012 Olympics logo. It cost £1,000s to create...

Get a selection of logos and ask to see previous designs from the graphics artist.

A good logo design might cost you from $100 to $500. Of course you can settle for DP's cheap designers and waste some bucks :)

It depends a lot on your expectation from the designer.
If you really want a professional logo it should cost $150-250.
Or else you can even get a $20-30 logo as well, by starting a contest here at DP.

$1000 is way too much! I'm a professional graphic artist and I even charge $50-$100 per logo, with unlimited revisions of course. There are even talented artists that can make you a logo maybe way better than a professional for $20! ;)

Depends what you mean by professional. Just good looking? 150$-200$. One that is able to deliver the message and really stand out from the crowd 300$+. Really professional logo might easily reach 1000$ as a designer usually makes many logos, not one, for a client to choose from ... not to mention that serious businesses also need the style book.

I've seen some good logos in $20 contests, but it's really hit or miss. The more you offer in a contest, the more professionals/talent you will attract. I would say $200 to $300 should get you something pretty decent - but $1000 isn't that much. I've paid a lot more in the past. Even $10K is low for a large agency developing a branding program for a large operation. It really depends on what you looking for.

I charge about 200$ for a logo. Do actually draw the logo isn't to hard, but the problem is to come up with a cool creative idea. This takes a lot of time an thinking. A good logo has a message behind it and fits is purpose.

    $100 - $200.

$20 is much to cheap and you may get something you think looks nice but it won't have many features of a good logo (brand recognition, simplicity, etc.).

Large corporations do spend $1000's of dollars on their logo design but there is no need for you to go all out with focus groups and the like.

$100-$200 would buy you logo design with a skilled designer.

Feel free to contact me if you're interested in a quote and examples.
