    Greetings,

I have a few questions for all directory owners out there.

    1. How long has your directory been in business?

    2. How many unique visitors do you get per day?

    3. How many page loads do you get per day?

    4. How much does your directory charge per premium submission?

    5. What benefits do you give your premium submissions over standard and affiliate submissions?

    6. What is the PR of the home page of your directory?

    7. How much profit does your directory generate per year?

    Thanks for any information.

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters

    Hey there,

Maybe because this forum was put into place as an information resource and as a community where other people help others.

Another reason is publicity for their own directories. A user comes along looking for directories with high traffic, and decides to check out that directory and get listed.

    Pretty good reasons to me.

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters

Page loads wont mean much, you could have your directory reload pages all day to make it look high or buy a load of useless traffic or redirect other sites to your directory.

PR0 as an example for one of mine.

Its rude to ask about profits and earnings unless your investing into a company :) but mine earn very little tbh.

Im not sure what this or answering the rest of the questions will do for you though.

Regarding your response to posts in your thread:

    Dont really go together ;)

As a customer when im shopping online or offline i never ask the shop or site about their profits. :)

Be honest Travis, you're thinking about running a directory and need to know if its worth your time first.

    Hey there,

I am not denying I am starting my very first directory website.

I did not mean to sound rude asking about profits, but I do need to know what I can expect so I am just looking for some figures. I am just hoping some people will share this information so me and other people starting directories can get some idea.

Another question I am wondering is how long does it take before directories start to make money?

My comment about the publicity was more directed towards the traffic part of it. Clients will want their listings on high traffic directories and / or high PR directories. I realize they could care less about profits.

Thanks again for those willing to share information or tell a bit more about their directory history.

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters

Ok ive personally had no paid submissions to my directories for weeks, i would literally have to go check to find out the last one i did have, whether thats down to financial problems worldwide i dont know, a contributing factor i would imagine though.

You can make money from day one, but its down to other things that will define this, if you mean a steady flow of income from it, i dont know.

Even DP forum seems quieter at the moment, business in general is tough for the time being so if you do start a paid directory any time soon be prepared for a wait i would say, like realistically 12 - 24 months, by then the economy in some countries might pick up and people looking to spend again may look to directories, but they might not, its pure speculation by myself and wishful thinking to be honest. :)

yeah.. it's time to buy, not to sell right now... I encourage you to buy one stablished directory rather than creating a new one..

    Hey there,

    Thanks for the feedback.

I have actually already started my own directory. I have been working on it for about a year. It is no ordinary directory for sure. The directory is geared towards the "Green" Niche. I plan to have listings from businesses, organizations, events, jobs, products, people, and much more.

We recently jumped from PR0 to PR4 during the last update. That was rather exciting. However, traffic is still rather low. I am about rank #15 for various things. I figure once I move to the first page, traffic will increase a lot.

I've seen competitors charging screening fees and about $100 dollars a year to be listed in their directory. This competitor has thousands of listings so I imagine their income is way up there.

I am going to be revamping my own directory for about the next 6 months. I am hoping by then the economy will pick up a bit and we will start getting traffic.

    Thanks again for the information.

    Sincerely,
    Travis Walters
