How much does the TLD of domains matter. Such as .com, .net or .org in terms of building a website.

Would there be significant more traffic with .com or is any one perfered over the other by search engines?

Tld don't matters for search engines, also if is a good name with .com you can get more type in traffic over the others tld because peoples are just used to .com extension.

Generic tlds don't matter. But if you expect traffic from Germany for example you would do better with a .de domain.

Ya, that's what I thought. But .com to me right now seems well overrated. Even though .net would normally be valued more than .org. I perfer .org for site's that strictly provides informations and does not involving and selling.

What do you guys think. Do lots of people know about .org being for educational purposes or is that only generally known in the world of webmasters.

.org can be used for commercial purpose and whatever you need to. My suggestion would be to cease worrying about the tld as .com .net .org are well known worldwide.

Again traffic would depend on how popular the site is or how good the content it. If it is a generic word then .coms generally fare well as we have a tendency to attach everything with a .com.
