I'm wondering -- in the opinion of anyone here -- how much weight does each of the following actually have: sub.domain.com domain.com domain.com/sub-page I'm considering making some new sites with a lot of content, but I don't want to create the sites and build them up if I'm not going ot get decent revenue through the ads. So in the end, how much weight does the URI have on the ads?
These factors certainly influence search results and Google displays ads based on a similar analysis of a page as search. I would say everything helps...
URI is the formal wording of URL. "Universal Resource Identifier". Yet still, no one has answered the question. I'm not asking which is the best, I'm asking how much weight you think each element has in the way ads are displayed. ie if the context is taken out of the URI ( domain.com/URI-here ) or is it taken strictly from the domain.com or can it be taken from both the domain.com and the sub.domain.com ?
From what I've seen ad relevancy is transferred over from your main domain to your sub domains. It's only after your subsites have existed for a while that Google starts sending them their own sets of relevant ads. The reason for this is that, when you start a subsite, Google hasn't indexed it yet, and it's sending ads based on what it knows about your main domain. It takes a while, anywhere from a few days to a week, depending on how often Google normally indexes your site. Plus, it helps to put a link to the new sites on your main index page to get Google there faster.
Sub domains affect it instantly. If I post to one of my blogs, say MakeMoney.blogspot.com, the relevancy takes almost a day to hit. If I go directly to that blog's reference URL, which might be MakeMoney.BlogSpot.com/Sell-Your-Soul.html, AdSense hits up relevant ads instantly, even 1 second after posting.
So wihch are you saying help make it more relevant? Does the actual URL such as sell-your-soul.html make it more relevant or do the ads stay relevant to makemoney.blogspot.com? Which actually effect the relevancy the most?
I sub domained a lot, with the main domain just being a nice page leading to all the sub domains. And truthfully, I saw all the google ads on each sub domain at once match the content on each page. I have never seen a difference in time or content using either a sub domain or a directory or a direct page. Just believe it looks better to have a sub domain if the main domain can point to it okay. Like: main domain is information.com, then a sub domain of: autocare.information.com sounds so good. Where information.com/autocare seems like just an add on, not a complete site. IMHO of course. The Iowa Dawg PS...see my signature for the information site and you will find all of them are sub domained.
Content, of course, is the primary factor. It just takes Google time to visit your site often enough for you to get REALLY relevant sites. In the beginning your relevancy depends on your main domain. Not so much the NAME of your domain, but what Google CURRENTLY knows about your domain i.e. past ads served. At least, that's what I've found.
