Theories, thoughts, and ideas that you have on this concept? How much does it matter if on a blogroll you have text surronding the anchor as opposed to just anchor text?

the text around the anchor isn't nearly as important as the actual anchor.. (kind of makes sense since it's the anchor vs the rest of the content) Be sure to keep the anchor the same as your keywords that you're aiming to promote!

I know that I was just seeing how much of a benefit do you think you receive for adding a little text around the anchor.

It probably has a small effect, more so in getting actually users to click your link rather then helping search engine ranking.

It dosent matter as long as you try to avoid abusing it by putting too much word because it is consider to be spamming

Google says it does, I have heard their patent applications point to the fact that it does or should matter. That said I still see lots of crappy sites ranking for competitive keywords with obvious spam link profiles.

    Will it change? Probably.
Will it change soon? Who knows?

Anchor text, alt tags etc these are just for additional theming purposes you know filling those little holes to become more se optimized.

It's like this, spider reads your links with stuffed toys content and also it reads the anchor text "car dealer" instead of giving you the full points for "stuffed toys" for your site it also considers your site as "car dealer". Now the points are divided. I might be mistaken with this analogy though. This is just out of my understanding about spiders.
