It's free to submit your site to Google as all the above posters have said.

For search engine results there is no fee. But to advertise in adwords you have to pay.

I think it does not cost you any think for organic listing But you have to do good seo for listing on top.
But on the other had If you want top listing you can do this with sponsored Listing. You have to bid for keywords for sponsored listing. And you have to pay per click for that listing .You site will list on top depend upon how much can you bid for keywords. You can also make a budget and target particular user or regions.

This thought made my day! Thanks for the laugh ~ it was just what the chiropractor ordered...LOL...

I'm so glad Tak(? sorry) asked the question because I have been submitting to SE and Directories so it would seem my time would be better spent if I put it into building links?

I came across some really useful info this morning but am not too sure if I'm allowed yet to submit a useful link for everyone? I don't mean to break the rules so if I do please excuse me. I am prepared to take a chance though because it could be useful to many others here:

    http://www.inlineseo.com/dofollowdiver/

That link is a recommended link from Andrew Hansen to find 'do-follow' blogs and I have absolutely no affiliation or any other interest apart from knowing that Andrew is one of the 'good guys' who is prepared to give honest help. So if anyone is looking for a good way to quickly find do-follow blogs for commenting on in their niche that link will do it for us all.

Anyway, I really just wanted to say thanks for a good laugh and please excuse me if I have broken any rules.

    Regards to all,

    Jan

It is always free and it will always be free as it needs many websites to index and we are indirectly helping them

Lol. Dont go giving google too many good ideas like that.

OP: its free as is said, you might want to sign up for google webmaster tools which will let you submit your sitemap and keep an eye on how it is being indexed among other things.
