    Hello people,

I'm not sure if this is in the right section.

I would like to know how much would it cost to hire a programmar/web designer to make a website like http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ .

I dont mean any of the graphic stuff and so on. I could do that myself. But i mean the database idea.

    Please give my concrete estimates.

    Thanks.

    ok, thanks people.

Also, od you think one can start learning PHP right away without knowing anything else about webdesign?

Do you need a background to learn PHP, or can you pick up a PHP for dummies book and learn from it?

Try looking at hotscripts. You will find a good rating script there.

To learn PHP, you must first know some html, then logon to
    w3schools.com/php

    Bye :)

I can tell you off the bet that you won't find a script close to what you need.

The cost would be around $800 and up.

    Peace,

you can build a site like ratemyprofessors.com using a program like Red Queen, which is a product review script that can be used to profile people.

but as azizny points out, you can't really achieve this kind of thing using a really cheap program. if you need to be able to do things like look up all professors within 20 miles of a given zipcode then that's the kind of thing a cheap solution just won't be able to handle.

What you could do is go on a freelance website and post a project (scriptlance.com, getafreelancer.com, etc.) and see what other programmers bid. It's free to post a project as you can always cancel it if you don't find a programmer, but you'll be able to see what other programmers estimate the cost will be.
