Does anyone use any social media for serious directory marketing efforts? I'm not talking about just having a Twitter account and using it every now and then... but rather an active presence and continuous marketing. What platform(s) do you use? How successful has it been?
I'm personally glad you asked this question and created this discussion thread. Today's age of information marketing and information technology, using social media and some promote a directory, blog, forum or website is an absolute must. Even if you're promoting an article that you submitted to an article directory and had published, it's good for business to promote your article on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIN, Pinterest, ReddIT, Sonico, Plurk, Google+ and so forth. You can use an automated content sharing service to distribute your content to social networks and social bookmarking services. The beauty of doing so is that although you will be paying a monthly fee for whatever plan you choose on social networks. This way, you won't have to manually raise one finger to raise awareness of your newly published content on social networks and social bookmarking services, as the paid automated content sharing service will be doing that for you. It'll give you a grand opportunity to focus on creating quality content on your blog, forum or website. Do you currently have a Google plus page or any accounts on social bookmarking services at this time, or, a YouTube channel?
As allowing social sharing from your website or actually promoting your directory through social media?
yes, it is good to promote your site on social media using subscription content distribution, simply because you don't have to lift an extra finger to share your link on multiple social platforms every time a new piece of content is published to your blog or website.
Yes, its a good start. I've found that without having the engagement back and force after the publishing of the feed, the conversion numbers stay very close to zero.
We've not used Social Media per say to having a Facebook Page, Twitter account, etc, but have advertised the directory ON Facebook. The results were pretty much as expected and paid for itself. I think word of mouth and brand yields more consistent results however.
People actually buying a product or taking specific actions on the website (filling out a form, etc). What's the point of advertising if the traffic is not converting
if you believe in yourself and continue to create unique and engaging content and have a long-term vision of where you desire your online business to be in the next and 20 years, wouldn't you continue to go the extra mile if your website affiliate programs were converting or not?
I track as traffic and conversions as much as possible. If a method doesn't work after a reasonable test period, No, I don't continue it just because I "believe" in it. Obviously my belief would be false at that time
Because people looking at FB want to go look at directories ? Cousin getting married, high school friend had baby, Sally got a new dog, Oh..WOW a general directory..? Yeah great fit, like a spam phone call at dinner time.
It's easy to be dismissive like that. Facebook can be used to keep your fans (current customers) know about your coupons. It can be used to promote articles on your directory and by extension the directory itself. Also, there are other Social Medias other than FB. You think LinkedIn wouldn't be a great advertising platform for a professional directory? Think again!
so does that mean you would give up on your blog or website altogether, whereas you would stop creating content daily?
