If I honestly had the a solid month to work on my directory and only my directory... oh man, ... just oh man! :evil grin: how I wish!

It's ok though, I enjoy doing what I do and helping people out. It really helps me to better understand the differences in people and motivates me to make new things to make other people's lives easier ;) (no to mention some cool stuff)

If you have Lots of $$$$ to invest (hight 4 digits), and make it to PR7 or higher. Yes, u will make some $$ per month :)

I'm working on that part now by buying more inbound links :)

The directories which give good value to customer do make big money. I know some of the directories making more than $ 100,000 a month .If you are contempleting in startting one you have to see what can i give to egistars. Just a link , an enquiry or very effective link

I think a heavily promoted PR6+ directory should earn @ average $3K per mon. Think of $30 submissions @100 submissions per month. Or at the least with 50 submissions (about 2/day) should cros $1.5K per month. Thats my calculation.

    Hmm... Is a link from a PR 4 or 3 page (inside a PR 6 directory) worth $30 ?

Directories don't make money anymore... they HARVEST MONEY, but only those with custom designs! So you should start a directory and let me know when you need a nice, custom design for it. Don't wait because you might never do it! ACT TODAY! NOW! ACT NOW! :D:D:D

P.S. how are my sales skills?

well...after 9 months of work on my directory, not a penny invested I now make $25/day from adsense and in some good days people also buy Featured Links.

When I'm in good mood I open promotions in the link sales forum.. and make $100 per promotion, but I only do this when I need money to buy a domain, a package or something, since I will never be able to pick up my paypal earnings and have to reinvest all. and so, starting from a directory I now own 20 websites and growing every time a new Idea comes in my mind. I'm now in the situation I can't handle so many sites (almost all are up and running but no or poor content and no traffic), but this will change soon.

as a conclusion, if you really want, you can doing it.

Very useful summary for newbies in directory business like me! Could you also give details of promotion methods you used and a little bit more details about which methods worked for you best? Do you suggest to make the directory free at earlier stages?

    Thanks.

obviously it should be free directory at first, mainly if it is a new domain, with no PR on it. consider every new submission as new content to your site.
what I did to promote? ... directory submissions.. forums posting.. gathering sites that accept link exchanging, made nice excel files with them and then used the option of phpLD: Send email and add link.. I got content.. and some of those I added the links even put a link back for me...and some more tricks.. but consider that after 7 months of work I've started seeing some results.
