    Hi,

If I sign up for adsense on my site then how much am I getting payed when someone clicks on one of the links? Does it depend on the CPC for the keyword and placement that the initial advert was published for on google?
For example if someone has an advert on google and has payed 20p per click when someone searches for it using the word "tapesty", then if my site contains information on tapestries and thus contains that persons advert because of adsense on my site, will it get payed a percentage of that 20p?

    Regards

It depends on how much the advertiser has paid. You get around half of that cost, I think.

But on what basis does the advertiser pay for the advert?

    What do you mean?

The advertiser just pays one price, regardless of where the ad is on your page.

First off, the dollar is the currency of the internet. Im from the UK myself and I learnt that a long time ago. The amount you get paid per click depends on a lot of variables, obviously, the usual case is, the more competitive the market - the more you get per click.

Taking lawyers for example, there is big money to be made in their profession and they all want the most exposure. They will sometimes pay dollars per click to get those vital clients. The usual case though is you get between 0.05-0.50 per click.

The positioning of your ads on your page is also crucial, the first advert on your website will display the most profitable ads so you want to have it in the best position possible. I would also recommend that you use one of the big rectangles (250x250 I think) at the top of your content, they seem to attract the most clicks. You might think they look unsightly but from my experience, visitors dont care.

You should receive at least 90% of what the advertiser paid for their advert link, I have never actually found out what cut Google takes off the advertising revenue, it might be none.

I could write about this topic all day but I think I covered your main questions..

Is is true that when you do PPC advertising you are paying for a placement when a customer searches for a specific keyword?

With AdSense, the ads are shown due to how relavent the page context is. If your site is about gaming, then the ads will relate.

Yes...BUT I thought the adverts listed are related to high priced keywords. I suppose a good way to sum up this question is if someone purely wanted to make money from adsense by making an advert which gets a very high place in a search engine for a very cheap CPC, how can you guarantee that the profits from adsense will compensate from your own advertising costs? Furthermore, if I advertised my site using a very cheap keyword but very similar to a high-priced one, then how can I make sure that that the adverts placed via adsense will be very high bidders?

IS it basically just a matter of luck whether the ads you receivee will be high payiong ones?

On your adsense unit, the highest paying ads are shown first.
