Hello I am just wondering what coders usually charge per hour or per project and what goes into deciding factor of the price. I want a link directory script made and also a article script. Im wondering though how much this would cost with full resale rights and also full source code. Also the coder would not be able to redistribute it. Please let me know what kind of figures I would be looking at thanks!
Depends very much on the list of features. Does coding includes design? The most important aspect is the game plan (features etc) and your flexibility to cover additional costs. There are add. costs always. Based on this plan, an experienced coder should be making a price. It's hard to tell just by saying "I need a web dir"...
It could start as low as 5-7$/hr and can go upto 50$hr depend on what you are doing , how many hours involved , etc ...
Hmm, most coders like me just work with ammount of work, because by hour only causes problems that they work too slow and stuff like that.
I think it also depends on the region of the coder. Most US-based coders go from $10-20/hr and up, however you can outsource a coder from India or other countries for under $8/hr. Some freelancers charge by the project and not on an hourly basis, so in that aspect, you'd have to take into consideration the features required in your requested script, design needed, use of custom extensions, etc. - John
Personally I charge $50-$75 per hour depending on workload. Larger projects I will quote a flate rate. I rarely bother with jobs online anymore. People don't recognize my value and there's always someone willing to under bid you. If you're looking for a coder, remember to take a few things into account: - Does he speak your native language well enough that he understands you? - Does he have to design the application or just code it based on your design? - Is the design clear and logical? - Did he design the app before building it? - What is his experience? - Does he have refferences? - Is his code bug free or security flaw free? - Does he offer a warranty to fix the code if bugs are found later?
For the directory code to be worth anything it will have to be pretty detailed (very competitive market these days). My best advice is to put together a features list and post it here, make it complete or it will be worthless. You should also be aware of the complete rookies that will be downloading your directory and will expect your support. If you can't give it they will give you a bad name. If you expect the programmer to give full support to your downloaders after coding . . . good luck. @john.michael "Most US-based coders go from $10-20/hr and up" is a very low estimate. But the honest answer is that you get what you pay for. I charge $50+ but most projects take me a small amount of time to accomplish. If you want to outsource for $8/hour make sure you are willing to deal with a language barrier and quite a few rookie mistakes (hopefully not security breaches). It also helps when outsourcing that you are quite knowledgeable about programming as is much like math: The universal language. If you don't speak chinese or indian & you don't understand about sql tables and such you will end up utterly frustrated trying to outsource a big ass project like a directory. To answer your question a full & complete directory w/resell rights would be in the high $XXXX whereas an bare bone directory would be high $XXX. Good luck and PM me if you have additional questions.
Small projects let say 30 minutes of work = 40€/hour Big projects = 20-30€/hour It depends, it has happened to me that I've worked for 50€ per hour for 10h but it has also happened that I've worked for 5€/h for 1h.
Two sayings come to mind: 1) "How long is a piece of string?" 2) "You get what you pay for." For odd minor tweak here and there, you could probably get away with outsourcing to those charging under $10 or $20 / hr. But if you're looking to acquire a script with resell rights, you really don't want to be cutting corners.
I usually charge by the project. I don't like dealing with hours. That is why i left like the 9 to 5.
