I'm looking for a modification so I can run rotating banner ads in my phpBB 3.0 forum. Once I get that installed I want to start selling the ad space. But I don't know anything about how much to charge for something like that.

How do you set prices for banner ads on a forum?

Depends on your PR, traffic, niche, member base, daily posts, ect. Also, the size of the ad and where it will be placed for how long.

Give me all or most of those stats and any other you have and I will give you a reasonable rate.

It's a brand new forum, so all of those stats are fairly low, but steadily increasing. The niche is the Olympics. You can see the forum in my sig.

I'm assuming that the size of the ad would be a 468 x 60 (isn't that pretty standard?)

Ad would just be placed for 1 month, because of the niche. By the end of August the Olympics will be done and so will the forum.

Is that enough info to get an idea of the price range I should be charging?

Will the ad be shown on every page?

Best bet is to just add Adsense. On a new forum you won't monetize well from independent selling of ads. It's likely no one will buy them or it will be so cheap that Paypal will suck up a large percent of your potential profits. If it's the site in your sig I wouldn't give you $5 for a year of banner ads. Not trying to be insulting just giving it to you as it is.

Read other threads here about adsense ad placement position to help maximize profits.

I recently launched a general discussion forum called www.smsbucket.com/forums

Since it is VERY new forum I sold ad space for only $5/month :)

It is also phpbb3 forum just like yours... but in future when my forum will have more members/visitors I will surely increase the price.

You too should follow this policy :)

Normally, Banners at websites which has 5000+ members and get daily 4000-5000 Hits get sold for $35-$50 a Month.. (only the 468x60 cost that much)

Alexa rank also matters, A new forum must be having around 25-100 members in the start, If you get buyers then it is good for you, Normally a banner would cost $10 a month in a forum like that. $10 a month is just like 30 cents a day, If you are able to sell 5 spots then you can earn $50 a month, In this case AdSense is better as AdSense can give you around $2-$4 a day from a site with traffic like that..
