I think a programming language is like anything else - you can learn enough to get around within one week. You can learn enough to be fairly good within one month. You can learn enough to be highly competent within one year. But it takes years to be a master. As someone with a previous background in programming (C/C++), you will have a much easier time than someone who doesn't understand concepts like variables, data structures, objects, etc.
"i know php" and "i know php" and two pair of shoes. i do this stuff for 10 years, i did a lot of cool stuff and make my living off it, and still i will not say that i am a master of it. i can accomplish most goals set, but to be honest, more than half of php´s functions i never even used. sure, if you have basic html skills and a nice person directly on your side who guides you, you can well learn php within some hours to have the first success-feelings... like making pages that include(); header & footer... when you are used to normal html, alone this header/footer-including is already a nice, amazing experience.
Hi, If u already know C++ I think u can start learning PHP/MySQL with some cookbook because you already know how to use an if or a while statement PS: don't start with PHP manual )
