Many rewriting tools have percentage counter of changed content, how much is enough to be considered as unique form Google by your experience?

60%, go all out and rewrite paragraphs, leave some out, etc.

I have found that it is often just easier to start from scratch as it is extremely important that it reads well for your users otherwise you will lose credibility.

Yes, it is always beneficial to try and write content in your own way.Google is capable to understanding the changes made to some of the most similar contents. But,according to Matt Cutts,Google does not penalize for duplicate content, rather it considers it as Spam. Please refer the following link to get more understanding on this : www(dot)webpronews.com/topnews/2009/09/16/google-busts-the-duplicate-content-myth

Note: Please replace (dot) with an actual '.' dot to view the site.

When u change 60% of your content, u have to think which part to keep and which to change, also how to make the new one didn't so similar like the before one.

Why bother so much, u can just wirte a new one!!:)

I agree. It's always better to have 100% or new articles because it is fresh and has less or no competition.

I have to agree! By the time you have messed about and changed 50 or 60% , it's almost quicker to do a completely original article.

Depends on how you look at it. If your site get flagged as a spam isn't that considered as a penalization? If you are using duplicate content and monetizing with Adsense and get caught out as 'spammer' you can say sayonara to you Adsense account. See the adsense TOS, in the 'webmaster quality guidelines'.

Sometimes Google penalize sites too. A must-view video from Google Webmaster Central http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/09/duplicate-content-and-multiple-site.html, says:

When I re-write articles (which I do for every original that I write) I write it so that it 100% unique. Google will not pick it up as duplicate content.

not if you're using spining software, add alternatives for 70% of words add 2 alternatives for every sentence (2 hours work max) then you can produce around 30 articles all 60% + unique, a lot faster than writing new ones.

When I rewrite Article, I just take idea from original article and then I rewrite whole article on my own. Only major points remains change but everything under those points change.
