How much can you earn by selling links?

Hi. I am wondering how much you could earn by selling links on your site/sites? Is it possible to earn for living? If you had 100 PR4 sites, selling links could bring you decent amount of money right? But it's not realistic is it?

It sounds like you already know that it really depends on the PR for your sites. If you had 100 PR 4 sites you can definately make a living selling links on those site, imo

yes, the hardest part is to get high PR. And that would be hard to manage all those sites.

Note that Google doesn't want you to sell links, and might cut the traffic coming from their search engine.
I don't like selling links anyway, as it brings too much administrative work with it, compared to regular ads.

No, the hard part is you can always sell all of them with a good price .
At least , you can sell most of the links and custom continue to buy your links .

It depends on PR, number of readers, RSS feeds, and your ranking on SERP.

Right now selling links is not advised as goole do not allow this, and they have methods in place to stop this.

If your blog and website is strong enough, you can earn up to $100 per month from individual site. However, it wouldnt last long since your PR will get penalized if google found you are selling link.

That is the point. When making your living by selling links, Google might cut your incomes to 0 in one day...

If you have a hundred PR4 sites I would think the better longterm approach would be to sell affiliate products instead of links. A hundred sites with Adsense and CPA offers could be sweet.

I think most people here are missing the point, it's not about 100 PR4 sites, but if selling links is worth something.
So to get back at it again, if you can the administrative work (links usually sell on a monthly basis), it's worth your time to sell some links, on places where you can't place banners/affiliate deals (i often get offered to sell a link in my footer, just for the PR of the advertiser).

    Duh.

That is, if you are talking about link ads.

You visited how many big sites now, like Yahoo? See all those link ads?

PR doesn't mean anything. Us advertisers go by the look of your site, and how many daily visitors you get.

PR 4 sites can be dead sites too.

I don't care if you have a PR 1. I am not impressed. I want to see how many daily hits you get.

And very few of us could care less about search engines. We know the reality of them.

    $2/link/month X 100 (sites) X 10 (links per site) = $2,000/month

    or

    $3/link/month X 100 (sites) X 10 (links per site) = $3,000/month

    Not bad.. :)...

But you need at least $500/month in hosting...

WOW! $500 a month ? Who do you host with?

For the OP, bottom line is, it's not just the PR that makes people want to pay for a link advertisement, it's the overall make up of the site.
Traffic, content, niche, demographics, history, and so on.
If you have 100 sites that have all that going for it, and not just PR, then you would be wasting space if all you are doing is selling links.

You are not going to make any money with a bunch of PR 4 MFA's unless it's from desperate noobs. (which is a good market :))

Yep, I think with this calculation you might be able to live, until PR drop. IF I do have PR4 100 sites I would do something else like pointing to ione site doing affiliate programs

PR is a very volatile metric to be trying to make a decent living from. I certainly wouldn't make any long term plans with a business plan like that as it could go belly up very quickly.
