How much can a backlink from a PR8 really help you?

I've been considering purchasing a text link a PR8 site for weeks now but the cost seems to out weigh the value from what I know. Yes I know, it could increase the PR for my site but as far as the anchor text goes and in serps, would it make a difference in rankings? PR doesn't really matter to me, only good rankings. So a PR8 link with the anchor text being the phrase im targeting, would it help my site move up in the serps?

I have a site that was recently #7 for the main search term, then it dropped to #9 now it dropped to #13, all within a week. Would the PR8 link help get my site back to #7 or at least the first page again?

Thanks in advance for your replies :)

If a website has a PR8 it often means it is very old and has alot of links pointing to it.If it's in your niche i'd go for it :D Otherwise it's pretty pointless

Nah, you'd be better off buying a PR0 link from a relevant site :)

If it is a related link inside the content of the page it would certainly help... If it’s unrelated and place underneath something like "Sponsored links:" it wont help much or at all.

I have managed to get a PR8 on a site that has reviewed my site. However my link is slowly being pushed down the page as more reviews are added. It will probably gone and relegated to a PR6 page in a week or so.

My query: How long to the PR benefits last? Or is it all very real time and will all the perks associated with it be gone in a week. If this is the case then is there normally a big rush to buy high PR when people think the next toolbar update will be?

    Thanks
    Bob

If the link is in your niche then it shoud have an impact, if not then there is no point adding random links.

First of all, I would only buy a link if I felt it boost my rankings, I don't really care about the boost it would get in terms of PR. Personlly, I would spend that on several PR5 and 6.

The truth is anchor text rules the rankings system, if you can manage to get high quality anchor text links from sites that are well established then you will do well. PR 8's are very good canidates, even if they are not relevant. Mainly because just by adding that anchor text you have made that page somewhat relevant to your market.

However I do believe that the more relevant links you have the better it will be for you. But do not think for a second that a high pr anchor text link will not help in the search engines because it will.

It is always good to have a few high power links pointing at your site regardless of the theme. Take a look some of your competors backlinks that are ranking high, alot of the times their links are relevent either but they have the right anchor text which is enough to push them to the top.

If it's relevant yeh but if its about something random it won't have a big effect if any.. but a relevant pr8 link is a different story :D

It will help a little, but the best thing it will do you is help get your inner pages indexed faster since google crawls deeper into your site when you have these kind of links.

Few things to consider after confirming that PR is not fake
    1) PR8 itself qualifies for having PR8 {must do backlinks analysis} ?
    2) Will it remain PR8 in coming update?
    3) Is it relevant to your contents?
    4) It has <50 OBL ?

If all 4 points are in YES then its worthy pay for it ;)

    Definately sums it up.

I have seen cases where PR drops and the link buyers get very little or no boost.

So you all suggest that a lower PR link, such as 4, that is relevent in content it more potentially valuable than a non-relevent PR 8 link?
