As we know the lower the bounce rate better the website health will be, but how much bounce rate (e.g. >50%, or >60% etc) is considered bad and really demands attention? What was the lowest figure ever you get?
Anything above 32% is cause for concern; I've gotten some of my humor sites down to 10%. I would suggest reviewing your analytics data and see what pages people are bouncing from and try to adjust the "user direction" and ability for users to find what they are looking for. In some cases, you might be hitting keywords that are not relevant to your page and bring non-relevant traffic.
As per my knowledge, the ideal bounce rate should be between 20% to 25%. Bounce rate 30% to 40% is normal though. 35% bounce rate is an alarm that you need to do an optimization or reconsider the keywords and other usability factors. Thanks -Kim
if your website have bounce rate >35% it's bad for your website and if there is bounce rate of your website around >30 it's showing bounce rate will be increased in future, so we need to secure at that try to update in website.
Presently, Google is not considering Bounce rate. So, now it will not effect your site in PR or keyword position in SERP. But in future, surely Google consider bounce rate in giving the serp.
If th esite have more visiters and having bounce rate around 25% then can say the site is good and ppls are staying on it.. But if only one visiter stay for long time then also get less bounce rate. SO according to me if have more visiters then bounce rate have some value other wise no need to consider it
If you're worried about bouncerate try playing a good video on the front page. This will keep them on your page for a bit longer.
depends on your site i run a blog which has the past 5-10 posts on the homepage meaning that people just read the posts from the homepage and don't click through, thus giving me a high bounce rate - not necessarily meaning no one is reading my content.
It is hard to say that how much bounce rate is considered bad as it depends on industry and competition in that field and also it depends on ranking of a site. If your industry have not much competition then it may be higher upto 60% but still you can good results also if your in very high compettion then it will be lower accordingly. And also you say about ranking and bounce rate relation- bounce rate is inversly proportional to ranking.
It really depends to me. If your site contains similar content such as instructions for something that a competitor above you in rankings has, then you'll obviously have a high bounce rate. But, ideally, try to not get anything higher than 40%
Appreciate your replies and suggestion guys! Another question I have been meaning to ask is, if anybody knows, how many seconds or minutes minimum should the visitor stay on the page before counting it as bounced.
&& First, your bounce rate when viewed in Google Analytics is not about the "time" a visitor spends on your web page, it's about if they go deeper into your site from the initial landing\entry page. So, a video isn't going to have any bearing if you think it "keeps people on the page longer" or "count a specific amount of minutes" to decrease your bounce rate. The main goal is to provide quality content that is useful to the visitor and easy access to information they will need beyond the initial landing\entry page content. Now, before we all get into this flaming war on what "bounce rate" is, just simply view what Google states bounce rate via Google Analytics. http://www.google.com/support/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=81986
That means if you have single page sites or sites using Ajax then that will generate high bounce rate, is that right?
