I am trying to figure out about how much bandwidth and web space I will need to open a web site such as RapidShare. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

depends.if you can get traffic as well as files, space and bandwidth are much more needed. also, such sites attract warez files(rapidshare has loads) so, better find a Host either offshore or who will provide you enough time to act against complaints.

if you are just starting out, i think space and bandwidth wont be too important right now.(getting people to uplaod files is more important). so for a start, i think 250 -500 gb space and about 2-3 Tb bandwidth should be ok.

but later on ,you are looking at unmtered dedicated bandwidth and more than 1 TB space.

yeah, but if you know how to act, you don't have to manually review files.
put a "report this file" on every page. if someone reports the file, delete it.

anyway look for illegal files and delete them regularly (daily basis) but leave the warez-it's one of the best traffic-generating files. And you want traffic, don't you ?

how can you delete the illegal files and leave warez as well?

anyways, most traffic comes from warez files so, best is go for places offshore so you dont face too much problems.

    Hi,

As Titahost said, start with a pretty decent number, get your customers and then go for the upgrade.
