It's not all about that, take this into consideration. How did high PR websites get a high PR before there were high PR websites to link to them? Build quality, relevant backlinks. Have backlinks from many sources, not just a lot from a few. You can't simply jump up to PR6 with one nice backlinks, and even if you can, what are you going to do, buy it? Those sites aren't just going to give it away.

not so sure i agree with you prince. one of my clients opened a new 'offshoot' business. they linked their primary domain (a PR6) to the new domain. the registration, hosting, hell the IP range was the same. the new domain jumped to PR5 first update. granted it's not a PR6, but huge jumps aren't unheard of.

to the OP, the number of garbage links you would need would be astronomical, if even possible. to get a PR 4 you will need a handful of quality links (i tend to hit PR4 with only a handful of PR4 links and a couple PR3). Consider this as well, one of my sites i got a PR6 link to within the first week (different than above), and it hit PR4 on first update and never went to the sandbox. To get a PR6 is going to take some very authoritative links. Hope you can afford the links you would have to buy to make that a reality

It's really hard to tell. Most sites with PR6 and above are "authority" sites, meaning they are quite popular and generous amount of repeated traffic on a daily basis.

Is the reason the pr jumps because of the power of the link, or because of the power the link drives to the site? For instance, lets say a pr 8 website links to you, but by someone unknown power, not a single person ever clicks that link, will the site getting linked to receive a boost in pr? Or is it simply coincidence that a high pr site has good traffic, thus driving more traffic to the new site via the link, in the end raising the pr of the new site due to a new flow of high traffic. Simply put, is it the link itself, or what the link offers to the site?

I don't know the answer to that, I'm just speaking my mind on educated guesses, I'm not trying to make an actual claim.

It depends, if your backlinks are low quality then you need a ton, if they are high quality then you wont need as much. PR6 seems like pretty ambitious and difficult to get, but I usually worry more about getting good SERPs than the pr of my sites. Unless your site has something to do with giving backlinks or selling backlinks I would think SERPs should be what you are focusing on too.

Depends on the number of OBL's, the quality of the link, whether it's nofollow or dofollow and lots of other factors. There isn't just some "magic" amount of links which gets you a PR6.

Your backlinks should come from high page ranking sites. Quality backlinks is more important that quantity of backlinks.

It takes good quality back links for search engines to recognize your site as a relevant one.

Based on my experience, mixture of different kinds of quality links is still the best. A single high PR link won't give you a boost on PR for a short period of time. Content is still a factor that affects this green candy bar.

I think you can keep getting low links while you find the ones that are going to put you at the top and increase your PR.

One link can bestow PR 6. That does not mean the page would rank for anything.

    Chase rankings, not PR...
