not sure that's correct, akshay. The calculation used to generate PR scores is in the google patent, and its... slightly more complicated than that.

    I m sure, thats correct..;)

Try it..;) Have a Practical. Get a backlink from a PR 2, PR 3 or PR 4. If you will get a backlink from PR 3 site/page (not too many outbound links), you will get PR 2 in next update..;)

Only Google guys can answer that.

But I'm sure that there is no such algorithm in Google.

I found many well established & super active websites which have many backlinks (over ten thousands) but have PR0. How to explain that??

1 link from PR8 to get PR6 is not true. I see some site with back links: 1PR8, 2-3 PR6 ++ but just got PR5

But anyway, this table once any remind us about quality is better than quantity.

It's a good guideline, but you shouldn't depend on it since Google can change their formula anytime without warning.

Is this a chart of how many links you need with little to no PRs to rank? Where do quality links come into play in this chart?

What we havae been doing is relying on content to bring in traffic. While we do the rest of the SEO we concentrate on content.
I am chary of this Page Rank business, small changes in the algorithm may not even be detected by us.

sorry, but that really isn't right. How pagerank is calculated is clearly explained by google themselves. Google it, if you want to find out. It's a shame it isn't that simple, of course.

Why don't you have a Practical.. You will see who is correct and who is wrong..:p Next PR Update will be after 3-4 months.

I mean have only one PR 4 backlink. You will get PR 3..;) Try it.

Good cart but sorry i dont agree that you can have, said PR even if you have that many links. If that was the case every one will just close their eyes and buy links. Dont you think google is not that stupit?

If you look at the article that the chart is taken from, it explains how to use it.

I actually bookmarked this chart a month or so back when I came across it outside of DP. I think it's a decent introductory answer to an often-asked question.

You can put together all the algorithms, estimated guesses, and mathematics in the world and apply it to your site, and it still won't over come crappy or average content, and bad design.

The best way to raise you page rank is to have content so original and compelling that others in your niche link to you naturally. There is no way around that, and there is no math that will make up for it.

You can "vote" for yourself all you want through social bookmarking, articles, and comment links, but it will never be as powerful as if others "vote" for you.

I don't think the chart holds any value other than suggesting that you get a bunch of links.
I probably spend the least amount of time on SEO than anyone (on my blogs) , just the basics. I spend more time on content, networking, and marketing my site because I want natural linking for targeted traffic, not Page Rank or Alexa rank.

Google and Alexa have never purchased anything from my site.

I'll do enough to get something, but it's the same equivalent as a restaurant getting press all over town yet having crappy food. If the food is good, word will get out with a quickness...of course the web is a lot more competitive than a restaurant in one city, but the basic principles still remain the same.

The only solid ways to success online (with a website or blog) is:
Good design, A Marketing Plan, and Great Content...or PPC, or some other form of advertising. Just like any other business.

It's not a Math Competition. It's Entertainment and Information....you need to have one or the other, or all the math in the world will not make you successful.

100,000 links to a crappy blog, won't make the blog less crappy, ad it still won't convert anything.
Working for adsense seems to be a different story, so let's assume I m not talking about that, but the best adsense income still comes from sites with good content, or great marketing.

Look at all the so called "gurus" that you all look up to, even though some have slacked on the content, they still have one thing going for them...great marketing.

You need to get a plan and work it to the bone..just attaining PR and Alexa rank is not a plan unless all you are doing is flipping websites.
