yes . As per my experience anchor text plays great role to boost your ranking on search engines, but it has to be limited. Search engines always crawl your anchors first and give ranking according to that Anchor tag depicted your website information.

I think dotnetappdevelopment is right.The anchor text tells the spiders about you page content. So it is important.Moreover if you are working for a particular keyword ranking in Google then you must have links from web directories,article directories as well as other resources with that anchor text itself.

Anchor texts are really important—every single submission (let it be article or video submission) has to have an anchor text( most of the times – your keyword – hyperlinked to your domain name). However nothing more than 2 anchor text is advised per submission!!!

anchor text is very much important. one thing which webmasters usually forgot is that they don't care about the anchor text. anchor text will be consider as the keyword of that page even that text is not used in the whole page or in url.

 

Anchor text is vital if you want to improve your ranking for particular keywords - including them in the anchor text will let Google know exactly what your page is about and it will boost your position on Google for these particular keywords (try to create some backlinks with a slight variation of your keywords though so it appears natural)

 

Last point is important: have some variation in it. Sites rank well with searches corresponding to the anchor text linking to it.

 

Definitely don't overdo it with the same anchor text though, 1000's of links with the same anchor is a massive flag to google.

 

If you are creating backlinks, Make them for your 2nd tier URLs and definitely use Anchor Text

In my opinion, the Anchor Text is the most important for the seach engine, even more important than the domain name.
For example just google "click here" and the first result is a page of ADOBE Reader. And if you examine the page, there is nowhere you can see the test "click here" !
Adobe ranks first for that Keyword though!
