The minimum should be 400+ words and the max not more than 1000+ words because it can annoy your visitors big time if you have a to big article.

it's not so much about the visitors, as long as SEO is concerned... better look at your competition using some seo tool and check their word amount etc... there are no specific suggestions, all checked empyrically

100 words or less can be a bit of risk for an article, because on a manual review it just might be penalized as light content, unless if its an image or video description. An ideal length for an article should be from 250+ words, i don't think there is any max limit!

I'd go for a minimum 400 - 500 words of unique content depending on the competition. In tough industries you may want to go up to double that but consider a users perspective. Make sure the text is keyword dense but not too spammy.

Where are you people getting these numbers from? Are you just making this up, or do you have any credible sources?

We recommend 350 words per page. But if the header, left sidebar navigation and footer have excessive text words in it, the value must go up to ~500 unique content words. You must watch out for "Duplicate Content" and low "Text-To-Code" Ratio.

I think 250 is the perfect number. Lesser will not give enough information, too long will bore readers.
If I have a 1000 word post, I will split it in 4 so that I will have 4 links and easy-to-read posts.

for SEO, 300 to 600 is actually a very good figure. Too much words can cause keyword cannibalization after all.

Ezinearticles has set the minimum text requirement of 250 words for each article post. Articles on ezinearticles are found to be given preference by the Google. From this we assume that 250 words is a safe go at the lower end. Upper I don't think there is any limit.

I recommend 250+ per page, typically I shoot for about 550 myself though as I like to be rather descriptive with my content (write content for visitors rather than search engines, and it will be the right number).

It is preferable that using 1000 words content which is keyword rich with maintaining keyword density, used links on some keywords in it, use of bold/italic/underline in it etc.. can make good effect in terms of SERP.
