i have a topic with a lot of information,

do people think it is more profitable to buy many domains and put many small websites (about 10-20 pages) up and link them together, or buy one domain and put a large website website up with many different topics?

    thanks for the help,

the quantity of the domain is not important .

there is only one criteria for adsense earning. it's getting more and more visitors

If the niches are close together, I'd go with having one site. If they are very widely apart, go with several.

Yeah remember that you have to factor in domain and hosting costs, so if you are solely going to make money from adsense then think about 1 domain only. ;)

I would just stick with 1-2 websites and put the bulk of the content I create on them. Assuming then content is within the same niche.

If the topics are significantkly different then go with more than one site.

Positionning is a key concept in any product marketing. You cannot positionne a website on more than 1 topic. If you want people to understand what ur talking about and more importantly have google send you visits, you need to be consistant in the topic. This does not mean you cannot have a website about web hosting, web desing, seo... at the same but cannot have a website on web hosting, gardening and human ressources management !!!
If you want narrow positionning (best), you can have very specialised websites (with higher costs) and take advantage of all the offered synergies (linking, traffic exchanges...)

It depends on how well your subject matter can be separated. By separating content, you are likely to attract more niche visitors, your AdSense ads will be more targeted, and you will generally get more clicks. The con is that you have to work that much harder to build traffic to each site.

    Agree with w3bmaster
Still I prefer 15 LARGE profitable websites - LOL
the best way is to try many times and those that don't make it!
Advice: don't get emotionally attached to your websites, it can kill you and your earnings.

I think it depends on your goals, areas of expertise, and more...

If you're the kind of person always making people laugh with jokes and such, but also very politically motivated...

Why not start a joke site, and a politics site?

Then if you get into tech stuff, start a tech site...

There's no limit, but I would suggest you don't start a site for the sole purpose of starting a site...

    Just my opinion...

if you are starting from scratch, create multiple sites, split up according to the subject matter... the ad targeting will be easier for google, and if a site gets hammered in the search engine standings, you'll still have the rest of 'em to bring in search traffic.

building up one big site is too risky, because if it suddenly gets de-ranked, you'll lose too much traffic.

I think it's better that you start out with one huge niche website and build traffic and readers. Besides, we don't wanna litter the internet with thousands of small crappy useless websites LOL.

I agree... Like investing, don't put all your eggs into one basket...

I agree with you on this concept, but it's already too late, the litter is already all over the web...

A lot of good sites would make more than one good site. By good i mean in traffic rankings. Do as many sites as you can handle. Kind of time management stuff.

thanks for all the help. it seems people have mixed opinions about what this topic. perhaps i should try make one large site and a few smaller sites (of about 20 pages) accompanying with the not so relevant topics to see what works for me.

is it a lot harder to build up traffic to a smaller site? i have read up on seo and link building, but still find the concepts of how a site builds up traffic a bit difficult.

    thanks, jaiburn

Well I would suggest you to have one site if you can get it all arranged in good manner. Means it dosent look like a crap and if you can do it i think it would be nice to make one site and if not then i would preffer you to make differnt sites on different topics.
