How many visitors you get to your directory each day?

    Hi

I apologize if this has been discussed before..

My Directory which is in my Signature gets about 600+ Page loads, 200 Unique visitors each day but improving each day though. Is this normal, average? or less.

Thats why I created this thread to find out from you directory owners how much do you get visitors to your directory? :D

    Thanks for your time.
    Cheers.

This is normal for a free directory. If you were a paid directory you would barely get any like that without spending a bit.

Free directories get lots of traffic - as they are high in demand from the link chasers.

Off topic. Just curious. How do you come to know about google penalty and how do you 'quantify' it?

Thanks. But what about quantification? How do you get a number like -50?

It's just the general number. A common penalty, the -50 one is.

Sometimes your site fights against it and creeps inside the top 40, often it lingers around the 70's.

No. That just goes to show that you're making your directory purely for webmasters and don't care about the end user.

Something to remember is a percentage of your visits are not even from humans, bots and whatever else, so often its a disappointment. :)

I was refering to the wrong traffic...like stumbleupon , etc. Like ppl who are leaving your page after they saw that they couldn't find what they were looking for.

Interesting figures, i wonder tho what package is measuring the figures you have quoted, does it exclude robots and spiders ?

centime here is the formula used by most people when quoting the traffic that comes to their websites:

    Daily Uniques x 3 + 125 = unique daily traffic

    or

Page views + 110 = unique daily traffic

    for free directories it is:

bots + spammers + 4 "real" uniques = unique daily traffic

There is a big difference in the bots and spammer visits to free niche directories and free general directories. I do wish folks around here would be sure to separate the two.

This free niche directory owner knows the majority of her traffic is human - not many bots search Google with specific long tail phrases and/or use the page translation options. Sure I get a few spammers but usually no more than 1 or 2 a day based on the submissions; they just seem to submit more than one site at a time.

I didn't know this figures. Are the numbers in the formula above hypothetical or real?
Actually I am unable to understand the above equations. Can you kindly explain how does it mean?
Also How do I know how many page loads are from spiders. I am using stat Counter and is there any way to find out how many spiders visited my directory site?

Thanks all for your help. :)

DigitalDuke, I greatly suspect those numbers were made up to make the point that most people overstate their site's visitors, particularly for the free directories.

He's not wrong about free directories traffic being low quality. Its just link hunters and robots mostly.

digitalduke - Thanks for listing a couple of my sites there.

I would say that the numbers you cite are normal in the early stages for a directory's development. Since you have a free option you should be receiving a decent amount of traffic. This post should give you a bump and if you did a post or two in the solicitations section on several forums you would probably get a big bump.

With your other question as to how much traffic I receive on mine. That is a loaded question on this forum as some of the posts on this thread already show and is why not many are really answering that question. I will just say it is significantly more.

I could give some of the people here the password to my traffic stats program and they still would not believe it so if you really want to get an idea send me a pm and I will send you a link to a summary report. :)
